To ease her mind, he performs a spell that binds their souls together, so that they always know whether one another is in danger wherever the other may be, and helps sense if something has happened. This does have its downside in the fact that they feel each other's pain, and if the magic was broken it would literally mean pieces of their soul would be torn out to detach from each other, meaning parts of themselves and what essentially makes them who they are, would be missing.

This was first inspired by this myth I read about the Red Thread of Fate, is an invisible red string that comes from the heart and are connected between two people who are destined to be together regardless of time, place, or circumstances. This magical cord might stretch or tangle, but it will never break.
