I think I would say "Lines By" or "Drawing By", instead of "ART by" - as that implies that what you do as a colorist isn't art - and it very much IS art!
Keep up the awesome work! I'm loving the colors in your gallery!

Well, to tell the truth, the editor asked me to just copy and paste that in. I usually do put "lines by".
You sound like an extremist colorist xD! But I can respect that .

hahah No, I'm not an extremist by any means. lol But not many things in this world really bother me, only when the line artists or pencil artist is credited to as the "artist" or their work called "art" and colorist and/or inker are singled out as something other than artists or their work not referred to as art, it's just wrong. It's a left over from back in the day when colored comic art was new and color work was done as almost an "after-thought" and was mainly just "flats" or simple cuts. But these days, when colorists have evolved to a level all their own and they have created a real art form, it's no longer accurate to call the penciler the "artist" and refer to the inker and colorists as something else entirely. It just implies that what the inker and colorist do is not art. And it very much is art. I've seen some pro inkers take some "chicken scratches" sketches and turn them into amazing pro line work and I've seen some amazing colorists turn very drab and boring line work into stunning masterworks.
I had an argument with a penciler just a couple weeks ago who insisted that because a penciler "creates something from nothing" he's the only one who should be considered an artist when it comes to the comic production team. It's sad that in this day an age there are still people with such a narrow view of what art is. If not for colorists and inkers comic art wouldn't be NEARLY as popular as it is. In my opinion, inkers and colorists in the comic community deserve more respect then they often get.
Anyway, I'm sorry for the rant. As I said, there isn't much in this world that actually bothers me, but crediting pencilers with "the artist" title or pencil art as "the art" and the rest of the team and their work isn't given the same respect - that bothers me very much. I'm very glad you usually put "line work by" or "pencil work by" because that shows a lot of respect for the whole comic creation process and the art team that makes it happen.
Anyway, you're a very good colorist and I look forward to seeing more from you!

Well, I think that most pencillers put in "art by" just out of tradition and not out of arrogance. From my experience, you just have to say if it bugs you and they change it to "pencils by". Besides, any penciller worth his weight in salt should be very open-minded and should notice the work that the inkers and colorist's put in. It's true that colors have come a long way and they should get more respect from the readers, but not necessarily from the team. Again, from my experience, every member of every artistic team I've been in has given me a shit load of praise and are very happy to have me on board, ESPECIALLY the penciller. The team are the people who are best placed to judge your work and give you recognition since they suffer what you suffer, they see what you done and why you done it and, most importantly, they feel the time and effort put into the pages whereas the reader pretty much browses through a book.
So conclusion is, we're very important, just as important as anyone else and we do get adequate recognition from the right people .
OH and thank you, I look forward to posting more !

I'm glad that you have had good experience with getting respect from the right people. Not everyone is so lucky.
Some pencilers that I've known have made me realize that there are a lot of arrogant jerks out there who believe what they do is the only part of the comic creation process that truly maters. lol Don't get me wrong, I've worked with some awesome people before who are humble and treat everyone with the same respect, but I've also worked with pencilers who think the are God's Gift to comics and treat others on the team like they are beneath them. But I'm sure as my skills improve I'll end up working with more and more professional individuals and start working less and less with the guys who haven't quite figured out that the comic community is a very small one and they aren't going to get far by treating others like poo. heheh
Anyway, sorry again for the rant. Thank you for listening!
I'll be following your new art. I love your style and I look forward to seeing more of your work!

I think there has to be a common admiration between the team members right from the start of a project. If I don't like the dude's work or he doesn't like mine then I'm not gonna color the damn thing, simple as that. I choose pretty carefully. Most of the time, pencillers that I know and like pull me into projects, which is great because I dig their work and I know their personality. Downfall is that most of the gigs with cool people have crap pay. If you're wanna make a bit of money as a colorist then you shut up, color... and eat humble pie xD. Guess it's the same for most jobs though. But it's true what you say, the community is a small one and what goes around comes around. Treat people like shit then you'll get shat upon! MUHUHUHUHUHU
