I really like the picture and the tight clothes. I think the guards would appreciate being able to see the bodies of the prisoners.

I also agree that female prisoners should be kept barefoot regardless of offense...however the tight clothes accentuate her body whereas a baggy sack dress takes away her femininity.

Thankyou. Interesting questions. I don't really have any detailed back storys for my characters except that they have all broken the law severely enough to warrant long sentances in a high security prison.
The ball and chain? Mostly inspired by other peoples artwort over the years. Is she so dangerous or wily that even while locked in a cell this is Necessary? Or maybe its just a cruel punishment delt out by nasty wardens. I leave it for the veiwers to choose
The outfit? Well thats very simple, I'm not as good an artist as I'd like to be and this outfit for me is the most easy prison outfit to draw. Glad you like.

Sentence: Originally 30 years, negotiated down to 2-1/2 when Cherinob turns herself in for environmental destruction following the defeat of Belay and Astirnah, and prevention of early Armageddon.
As for Cheri herself?Β Several months in a nuclear reactor.Β Followed by detention for an indeterminate length in a facility with a special cell to help drain her excess energy buildup and limit her ability to nuke inmates.Β (Though they do still sometimes call on her to perform exorcisms.)

I like the tight-fitting clothes actually, and the lack of footwear. They don't deserve it.

Lack of footware also makes Inmates less likely to try and kick at guards or other inmates plus it slows them down in the unlikely event they see a chance to run off.
Tight fitting clothes prevent inmates concealing weapons or contraband and also why have a pretty slender inmate girl and put her in a shapeless baggy uniform?

In fact there has been an unpresented field study in a women's gaol in the late 19th century with the result, that inmates were considerably more inclined to comply to prison rules as well as obediently submit to the officers with much less tendencies of defiance and uproar whenever their shoes were confiscated and the incarcerated women were forced to remain in their bare feet for a period of time.
The results have become common knowledge in law enforcement and corrections so even today it is a standard in many women's prisons to perform repressive procedures like frisking or shakedowns on barefoot inmates. As most female prisoners are taking off their footwear and forcingly go just in bare feet only with significant reluctance it is also a means of displaying authority and the power of the institution to break the inmates' will with ease which in turn leads to increased compliance.
So compelling female inmates to go barefoot is a very rational decision for any prison administration and becomes more and more prevalent in modern corporation prisons.

Yes, this study makes perfect sense.
Taking away a prisoner's shoes and making her go in bare feet, all the more reluctantly, is bound to have an intimidating effect on her and should notably diminish her overall confidence. The prisoner naturally feels the more vulnerable and insecure and is brought to refrain from unruly or defiant behaviour far more easily.
It has proven to be an easy yet highly effective measure to maintain discipline among prisoners and therefore is known to be utilized in many expecially foreign women's prisons.

The officers' safety must always have the highest priority. It has actually proven many times to be the most effective and simple measure to discourage the inmates from behaving in a violent manner towards the staff and in general.

And it is also more convenient for the overseers to take control of an inmate who is in her bare feet because she is far more vulnerable.
And as the inmate also feels more vulnerable as if she would be wearing shoes, she is more likely to follow orders and be compliant to the prison rules readily.
Every time the inmate feels the cold concrete under her bare feet she is immediately reminded of being nothing else but a prisoner.

There is one more point to the taking control argument:
When ever the inmate is being shackled (for safety reasons of course kneeling or lying prone and being handcuffed first), especially if she should resist the procedure in any way, she can easily be controlled and subdued by simply holding her big toes together tightly and holding her feet above the ground in this manner. This way she is effectively impeded from struggling with her feet and the officers can now place the restraints on her without much hassle.
This can also be made use of on other occasions, whenever the inmate has to be rendered defenseless with minimal effort. As a variation the officer can take hold of any of the inmates toes and hold the foot up in the air, which is also very effective because it is going to be painful for her if she tries to move out of the grip.

Also if an unruly inmate should make it necessary for the officers to give her the strap they can punish her very effectively by also beating her susceptible bare feet.
And if the inmate is held down or secured lying on her belly a beating on the soles of her bare feet with a riding crop makes an excellent punishment for any female prisoner.

As we are rounding up good arguments why female prisoners definitely have to remain barefoot let me add some more thoughts:
- it makes it easier for the overseers to perform inspections of the personal hygiene on the inmates, like if the toenails are trimmed to the prescribed length and taken care of, the skin between the toes is healthy, the sole does not have any callus etc.
- it is the easiest and most economic way to provide for a uniformed appearance of all inmates. No money is being misspent on items without practical utility for the daily procedures.
- the danger of twisting ankles or tinea pedis is dramatically reduced, which also saves medical costs.
- the usual strip searches are perfomed very quickly as there is no time wasted by waiting for the inmate to take off her footwear.
- it is a tribute to the long-lasting tradition all over the world that female prisoners are kept barefoot. It is a return to old values, that delinquents are withheld from the merits of reputable free people that acquit themselves in society every day by following the law and make an honest living.

There is also another practical side effect to it:
There is considerably less wear and abrasion to the flooring inside prison facilities with only barefoot inmates, which in turn saves cost for overhaul.

There is also another psychological side-effect to it:
When the prisoner is being walked by one or more overseers the sound of the confident footsteps they take with their sturdy security shoes or boots subliminally intimidate the barefoot inmate.
This effect is enhanced even more if the prisoner is restrained in shackles for the mainly audible sounds the inmate causes is the jangling of the chain between her ankles. Additionally she will have to take far smaller steps than her overseers. So she constantly hears them walking in a steady pace while her bare soles hardly make any sound on the concrete floor at all.
At last it feels humiliating for the only barefoot person present while all the others wear sturdy shoes, which is a typical prison situation for that matter.
