Description
Mostly painting over a picture of Tokyo, done for fun and practice. Obviously inspired by Katsuhiro Otomo's Akira, still to this day my favorite manga and animation movie of all time!It was kinda refreshing for once to start just with one picture and see what else was coming through. This time around I used images only when the need for one turned up, instead of gathering a bunch of em beforehand like I usually do. That proved to be quite beneficial when it came to letting it flow and be free, opposed to my usual situation where I don't want to paint much cause I worked so hard on gathering all those images and arranging them together... I will be trying more of this in the future, see what I come up with.

Thank you so much!
I did a remake a couple years later, which I think is better: The Beginning of the End (Remake)
Cheers!

I thought I was already watching you before... I realized I was only following you in FB haha!
Anyway, I like how you made the fading effect of the buildings and the desaturated colors bring the feeling of the End. Great work!

This is very beautiful!!
Actually, this reminds me of the first season of heroes when (MAJOR SPOILER ALERT:
Peter, in the future, would be what explodes after not having the ability to control his own abilities, half of New York and create devastation. In which, everyone in the past who has abilities like Peter tries to find a way to stop the explosion from happening. In which in the end, his brother, Nathan, who has the ability to fly, ends up flying Peter out to the sky where he can explode in order to keep him from causing destruction to New York.

Taqresu650 , Akira is a manga by Katsuhiro Otomo, published by Kodansha in the 80's. The American/European editions came later and they were masterfully colored over the original B/W. A movie based on the comics was released in 1988, featuring which at the time were the most advanced animation techniques, that of course are very outdated nowadays. I guess it's kinda old... like me.
Caught me when I was a teen and impressionable, but still nowadays I love it so much...
Here's the "official" synopsis for the movie:
In 1988 the Japanese government drops an atomic bomb on Tokyo after ESP experiments on children go awry. In 2019, 31 years after nuking the city, Kaneda, a bike gang leader, tries to save his friend Tetsuo from a secret government project. He battles against anti-government activists, greedy politicians, irresponsible scientists and a powerful military leader until Tetsuo's supernatural power suddenly manifest. A final battle is fought in Tokyo Olympiad exposing the experiment's secrets.

It's before my time, but it sounds very interesting. When I think of 80s animation, I think of tv shows like Transformers. It seems there was a lot of motion picture innovation in the 80s. I heard how Tron was something completely new with its special effects. I wonder where it is still possible to watch Akira.

You can watch it on Netflix, but I can't say for sure if it's on streaming or only on DVD rental. I am also positive it is on YouTube, but view at your own discretion as it's obviously not legal to upload a full movie there.
The animation in the movie was definitely advanced to its time. I suppose it can be compared a bit to the Final Fantasy animation movie, which also is now outdated but in its day it was really impressive.

Taqresu650 In reply to Rowye [2015-04-25 18:01:38 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately, I don't have Netflix. Also I think Youtube is taking measures to keep any illegal movies from appearing on their site. I once tried to find Justice League Flashpoint Paradox, but I think Youtube took off all the full movie versions of it for legal reasons. My best bet maybe would be DVD. I could try Hastings or a Pawn Shop to see if it's available.
If you're talking about Final Fantasy VII Advent Children, I know what you mean. FF7 was already known for being the first game in its franchise to have 3D graphics, but its sequel movie had amazing CGI for its time period.

Hehe Taqresu650 , I was talking about Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within. Advent Children is a way better movie for any Final Fantasy fan, or well, anybody, but the art and animations in Spirits Within was way more impressive, it was something we hadn't seen yet back then. Of course, any animation movie 14 years later (today) is better than that.
Anyway, best of luck on your search for Akira on DVD! I'm sure you can find it. The movie's VCR used to be one of my most precious possessions but then VCR died hahaha.

I love the animation for both movies. I still think it's funny that they will even include a Cid in their movies as well as most of their games. Cid Highwind from FF7 may be the most reoccurring Cid because he's in the FF7 games, Advent Children, and some the Kingdom Heart games. I was just playing Final Fantasy 13, and its animation is very impressive.
Thanks. A harder task would be finding a VCR copy of Akira. I have a player that still plays VCRs, and it still works perfectly fine. In fact, I just watched the VCR for Atlantis: The Lost Empire.

Haha yeah, but sadly, most of presidents act like Tetsuo
I guess ideas need some feed. Read, watch art, watch movies... to me it's more about have time than be out of ideas
You are welcome!
