Thanks a lot for the tutorial! I managed to make one of those last weekend. And I guess there are lots of them to follow. It's kind of addictive to make these dragons in all different colors...

Wonderful Dragon! I have one question, which size is the big bead? Thank you! xoxo

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to Xandibeads [2012-06-21 14:45:59 +0000 UTC]

It's 15mm diameter, but smaller ones can be used too

Faerieheart In reply to Rrkra [2013-08-17 18:38:31 +0000 UTC]

Thank you SO much! I was going to ask this very same question!  Now I have to head out to the bead places again!

Again, these are AMAZING!  I hope I can manage it.

I should hate you for that tutorial! I'm about to spend all my money for those beads and I love it No, thank you so much for it!
But do you have a more specific tutorial for brick stitch rows? 'cause I'm stuck on the neck... -.-'

There are lots of brick stitch tutorials, like [link]

Your work is amazing! I'd love to try your 's' dragon and spiky pendant tutorials...
I cant seem to get the right beads locally so will need to order online. just wondering how many beads are needed for each of these?

ie. how many 5gm tubes will I need to order for each project?
I know I'll need at least one of each size, but not sure how far one tube of each will get me.

can you give me a rough guess?

Thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to CJM99 [2012-06-10 21:57:23 +0000 UTC]

Hard to say, I don't keep track of beads that closely...
5 grams of toho treasures are usually enough for at least 3 dragons, but that really depends on the size. A tube of each colour/size needed should be enough, I guess

CJM99 In reply to Rrkra [2012-06-11 01:17:38 +0000 UTC]

thanks I was just after a rough guess. I'd hate to start one and only have enough to get part way

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to CJM99 [2012-06-11 07:44:22 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, not having enough beads to finish is evil...especially if they aren't available locally=/

CJM99 In reply to Rrkra [2012-06-19 01:00:03 +0000 UTC]

Sorry for asking all these questions, I'm just trying to ensure I order the right number of colours and sizes

can you please confirm this shopping list for the S dragon? I'm just a little mixed up of the treasure/11/15 combinations I'll need to order having none to start with. Thanks again

1x big bead(the one the dragon will wrap around)
2x size 6 beads (eyes)

1x pack of cylinder Treasures (black)

1x pack of Toho size 15 beads (black)
1x pack of Toho size 15 beads (gray)

1x pack of Toho size 11 beads (black)
1x pack of Toho size 11 beads (gray)

1x pack of Size 8 or magatamas for spine

Rrkra In reply to CJM99 [2012-06-19 11:39:17 +0000 UTC]

Nothing bad in asking
Here, I quickly doodled it, shows which beads go where: [link]

You can actually use the same pack of size 6/8/magatamas for both the eyes and the spine.

The list looks right

CJM99 In reply to Rrkra [2012-06-19 21:07:49 +0000 UTC]

Thanks, totally boosts my confidence that I can order the right supplies to give it a go

Now if it works out well I'll be at risk of falling in love with another hobby

Again thanks so much for answering my questions and graciously sharing these tutorials - and just being all round inspiring

Rrkra In reply to CJM99 [2012-06-19 21:59:31 +0000 UTC]

Well, it would be a fun new hobby
What thread/needle are you going to use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CJM99 In reply to Rrkra [2012-06-19 22:46:08 +0000 UTC]

I've got a beading needle, the smallest I could get at the local store, meant to be for seed beads, I cant remember the exact size -doh! but it managed to pass once through the crappy generic seed beads I first got when I realised they weren't going to work lol

I got a couple of meters of nylon thread, but I'm thinking of getting some 'Fireline' with my bead order, the helpful lady I've been bugging about supplies has confirmed she uses it with the Toho sizes for multiple passes for weaving etc and it can take at least 3 passes, so sounds good to me

You know my watches are going to be miffed if you get me hooked on this, less time for sculpture and paper crafts j/k

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to CJM99 [2012-06-19 23:02:33 +0000 UTC]

Asked because a needle too big won't work well with size 15 beads, they are tiny I use size 12 needles.
Of course there is always this option - [link]
Nylon is fine, but fireline tangles much less^^

True, beads are time-consuming XD

Promise I'll let you know how I go in this adventure

I love this one!! I'm currently in the middle of making one. I'm having a bit of difficulty with the head part though. could you possible make a second tutorial on it going a little more in depth? No problem if you don't feel like it

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to Shadow124576 [2012-05-02 13:03:29 +0000 UTC]

Which part are you stuck on? Maybe I can explain

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shadow124576 In reply to Rrkra [2012-05-03 03:38:27 +0000 UTC]

Really I'm stuck on the transition from that first row of the head (hunter green beads, 4 of them to the five sections)to the second row of the head. Also once you have all five sections done how are you connecting them? I'm a little bit of a slow learner so sorry for the stupid questions

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rrkra In reply to Shadow124576 [2012-05-03 16:36:38 +0000 UTC]

Hm... It's tubular ndebele. Here's a tutorial about it, with photos - [link] or another one, pdf download - [link]
They get connected when tou make the second row. Just don't forget to insert eyes

Yeah, I had to make one of these as well.

I am rather stuck on the sewing-beads-onto-the-head bit. Could I ask really sweetly for a more in-depth explanation of how to do it?
