Question; Why does this man have a forked tongue?

Answer; It is not unusual for Humankind to use the name of Jesus Christ to justify our selfish desires. Our actions, supposedly motivated by belief in God, make a mockery of the ethical teachings of the Christian religion.

Mankind has made a liar out of Christ. That is why I have given him the tongue of a snake.

If Christ exists as the son of God in a literal sense is not really the question. The ideals represented by the symbol of Christ should be the point. I believe that we should look to our individual interpretations of Christ and analyze the choices that we make everyday in the mirror of his eyes.

Is it important to be ethical? Is it important to choose good? To be charitable and caring of our fellow man? I believe it is. I believe that our species has advanced as far as we have because we have at times acted as though we are all in this together ... NOT by fucking each other over.

Some will say that it is our instinctive nature to aggressively propagate and defend our territory which has caused us to expand and become the dominate creatures on this planet. But if that is true then we are no better than ants or termites, other socially ordered beings, (Which outnumber us by quite a bit I might add).

But, as far as I know, ants do not create art. Nor have they evolved the ability to make choices … to think in abstract ways.

I believe that humankind must follow a code of ethics in order to avoid chaos and anarchy. If we can not follow a code of ethics of our own design ... then perhaps we need Jesus Christ and all that entails.

We are all intertwined. If we fight amongst ourselves for the fewer and fewer crumbs remaining, we will parish as a race. It's already happening! We must find a way to exist, or we shall cease to do so.

I don't care how we find a way to survive ... If following a set of rules embodied in a religion which teaches that a man named Jesus Christ is our connection to God can save us, then let us be saved ANY way we can.

The legitimate teachings of Christianity have been twisted by the lying tongues of men to serve their own purposes. All sorts of horrors have been perpetrated over the centuries in the name of the Christian church ... that's not new news. But look around you now ... Turn on the fucking TV and look at these fat assholes asking you to believe their shit ... "PRAISE THE LORD AND SEND ME SOME MONEY, SUCKER!'. And of course, it's the most gullible and needy that fall for it.

Man has given Jesus the forked tongue that I have painted for him here.

Some people are offended by this painting. I think that Christ would encourage the provocation of thought, even at his own expense ... It's when people don't think, and react impulsively to what they THINK they are seeing, that the foolishness begins.

Jesus says :Β

Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Β Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.

Β Blessed are the meek: for they shall inherit the earth.

Β Blessed are they which do hunger and thirst after righteousness: for they shall be filled.

Β Blessed are the merciful: for they shall obtain mercy.

Β Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.

Β Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God.

Β Blessed are they which are persecuted for righteousness' sake: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Β
This Great Power in these Fabulous teachings make me kneel before Jesus and believe that he is The Creator of all the world Β and i say all the honor and all Respect to you Jesus :
Blessing, and glory, and wisdom, and thanksgiving, and honour, and power, and might, be unto our God for ever and ever. Amen.

As an anarchist I'm a little irritated by the anarchy crack (if we all did what we believed was right then government would be pointless) but I think the work makes up for it.

When I first saw this I was offended, but after reading the first paragraph I realized there was no reason to be offended. The fact that I was offended, even shocked may be a good thing. There is an abundance of Jesus images offering no meaning to anyone who doesn't already know what Jesus stands for or what he did. People simply see Jesus and think whatever opinion they have already formed in their minds. Jesus with a fork tongue is subtle enough for someone to give it some thought as to why without being complete blown away by what they see as blasphemy. A fork in a road is a good symbol showing how people will use good or evil based on whatever suits them at that moment. I agree with what you are saying with this piece. What could be considered worst is how people believe this misuse of the Word to be true! I cannot think of much to make your point more obvious. A politician with a Jesus puppet comes to mind though. Regarding ascetics; the crown of thorns seems to be a bit lacking compared to the rest. God bless you.

but the idea itself about Jesus is wrong and MISLEADING
i hope that he opens your eyes to see the truth that you should show to the world

really, if you're going to complain, don't do it on someone else's art.
i have a right to my question, you don't have the right to criticize me.
it DID have to do with the art. it was the intent of the art.

It was the ideals, not the statuary, buildings, money, him or all else the Christian Church has become...

you have defiled the imag of the holy one.

then again so have I.

now for your critique:
the composition on this piece is superb, it really jumps out at you- somebody's either been doing his homework or has a good deal of talent in addition to skill. the blending of the colors is superbly done and is in a consistant style, and the expression on his face is a perfect 'oh shit, I'm in trouble' masterpiece (more commonly seen on young children who have been framed for being in the cookie jar). it's interesting- and pleasing in no small ammount- to see what is commonly referred to by a large population as being the most powerful man ever to walk the earth looking like he wants to curl up in a ball and hide.

the blending from the cheekbones to the bridge of the nose is interesting: why did you choose to leave it striated, when you could have smoothed it? it almost looks like a similar technique to that which you used on the hair. and the thorns- a similar technique to that used on the lips? and lastly, since this is oil on canvas, how did you digitally capture this image without any glare? these are technicalities, I realize- but if you'd address them I'd appreciate it, as I have tried several times to achieve similar effects without much success.

i like the work a lot, and much of what you say concerning the "natural" (sinful) state of man. agreed, Chrisitanity has always been Christ's worst enemy, although being a "hospital," one would have to expect to filled with sick people, as Christianity is. The only differenc is that Christians (those with REAL faith) KNOW they're sick, the hypocrites (those with a SAID faith) think they're fine and that THEY do HIM a favore by saying He's Lord. Those are the one's that gave Him that tongue, NOT humankind in general. Anyway, like I said, great work, profound truth and I love the shock value. By the way, another way to express what you're trying to get across, and one that Christians would understand is to call this great work "1 John 1: 8," which reads, "If we say that we have not sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us."

John was writing to Christians in order to make them understand that WE NEED HIM in order to have peace with God, and that have to constantly evaluate ourselves to make sure God is glorified in our actions, which will ALWAYS be sinful until we're made perfect in Heaven. Bravo brutha, well intended!

You have requested an advanced critique and so I attempted to look for points upon which to base such a critique, but can find none! I do not say that to imply that your skills appear to be perfect, only that I can not think of any change that would make this work communicate it's point any MORE perfectly than it does in it's current state. If it is helpful, some of the aspects I reviewed were; consistency of style across the work (such as color, stroke, focus, lighting, technique), over/under elements (such as too much detail that conveys no communication and provides only distraction or too little detail so that the communication is incomplete unless intended), specificness of message (works that portray "inside jokes/understandings" are of little value unless they are presented with additional information that brings the viewer into the inner circle of the subject) and of course overall content and framing (for instance, if you had put three crosses on a hill in the background, I would have suggested you remove them and enlarge the face to fill the frame). Truly a very excellent work, with a profound and thought provoking message for those that read your text... ahh... that does offer one opportunity for change, but I can not offer a specific suggestion. It would be quite an accomplishment if you could add a subtle element to portray that MAN has done this to Jesus without detracting from the work as it is. Such a change might "complete" the communication by portraying your motive, but I do not believe that it would particularly improve the work. I can easily see this illustration as is, in a mainstream but edgy publication (maybe even Rolling Stone as bizarre as that sounds) with an article title of "Are we putting words in his mouth?". I hope you find some value in my words and thanks for sharing a very memorable work. -the creativist.
