FAQ:Invisible images in create.swf? use a different program to open create.swf or disable "anti-aliasing" in createX's options menu.
Edit:
Directly importing SVGs is now possible, this is an unstable feature, the simpler the svg structure the more likely it will work if you use Inkscape make sure you save as "plain svg".
Ungrouping your objects. sometimes saving as "optimized svg" can also help, but it can make things worse too though...
I recommend converting your svgs to .swf files instead for maximum compatibility, read on for more info.
What I'm talking about is the import->image function(also applies to asset pack menu as well).
I've put out a new update to create.swf extended, which disables imported asset rasterization(a process that converts graphics to a static bitmap).
Which means if you have the means to make flash files you can import them fully animated and fully scalable as you'd expect.
You can use this free online converter to convert svg to swf.(there might be other tools out there)
Svg files can be made in Inkscape .
With the above tools you will be able to make own importable vector graphics with free tools.
but I myself prefer doing things myself when I can(plus having offline options are nice), so here's how to do it yourself on a windows computer:
First you will need Inkscape , open your .svg file, then go to file->save as,and change the file type to .pdf, save it.
Now you need SwfTools , install it, and drag your pdf into pdf2swf.exe, now you're done!
You can use more advanced flash creation application such as adobe/macromedia flash professional, Vectorian Giotto, etc.
But be aware that create.swf is built on "actionscript 1" which is incompatible with actionscript 3(2 is ok).
Vectorian Giotto is a free alternative to adobe flash professional, it's unstable(but so is adobe flash pro), and lacks just enough features to be annoying to use. But if you're interested then you should google search for a download(official website is dead).

So, I tried the pdf to swf program and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong or if I'm doing anything wrong. I mean, I've gotten close but no dice.

What do you suppose I should do to fix this? If you have further advice on it, that'd be appreciated too.

As far as I can tell there exists no perfect converter between flash and svg, so it's not that you're doing anything wrong. Dealing with finicky issues like this can be a pain, some things that could work but I'm unsure on how likely is to try saving as an older version of pdf(the 1.4 option in inkscape's save pdf menu), and seeing if the simplifying the svg(use the import svg simplification notes in the journal) would effect things. Sorry if that's no help, I've yet to come across a stable way to get vector graphics into flash.

If you're using google chrome, you'll have to disable anti-alias images to bypass weird security issues. if you want to keep anti-aliasing, you'll need to open create.swf with a different browser/flash player.

Are you using google chrome? google chrome has an issue with imported images, you can either use another browser/flash player to run create.swf, or go into create.swf extended's options and disable "anti alias images".
