You may have heard that Adobe Flash Player will stop being updated and distributed in 2020 .
It may sound worrisome but what this means is that you won't be able to run .swf files in browsers. The updates have never mattered to Create.swf anyways since they are mostly changes to security.
You'll be able to use dedicated flash player programs even after flash is discontinued. Create.swf will be fine, people can continue to use it as they always have, and we still have a few years that browsers will continue loading these files. If you have save data on your browser you could lose it as support is discontinued.
A few people have asked and discussed interest in the idea of a new Create.swf program. A new Create.swf would be great, it could get away from Flash's limitations and It'd be much easier to expand its content. but this is a fair bit of work and time to get any headway in such a thing, and AFAIK no significant progress on an active project currently exists. It'd be great if I was wrong, but a new Create.swf doesn't seem to be coming(at least at present). As for me, I've split my time and attention across the development of 3 separate Create.swf programs(2 ports and 1 mod), though I decided to focus only on Create.swf eXtended to keep things manageable. But admittedly my motivation towards Create.swf development hasn't been that good, so I doubt I'll be creating a new Create.swf either.
Create.swf lacks power and some obvious time-saving features, Create.swf is basically a simple version of a frame-by-frame animation program. many video makers prefer to use video editing software instead for more control than what Create.swf could ever do.
Until a new Create.swf program is created or perhaps a 3d dress-up doll animation studio program(that's what Create.swf is, but 2d) gets popular in the community, things will likely stay the same. Though in a few years, you'll probably have to download both flash player and Create.swf to your computer, no more running flash apps/games online from your browser.

If we convert the create.swf into a html file, would it still work?

Although there are a few converters out there, AFAIK all of them only work with small simple swf files and won't work with create.swf.

It really is a shame that flash is going away, I still really like it and it makes up a lot of internet in the past. It's gonna realy suck having to see that stuff going away... It would be nice if people could start preserving swf files in an archive or something, I know stuff like that kinda exists, but I want there to be more of an effort to start preserving flashes (or at least the Touhou music videos that are flashes, I really like the quality of them).

I still think it's kinda sad in a way, just because of all the history and things that will become non-functional, like Newgrounds, a bunch of animations and other things all over the internet.
It's understandable they're going to move on, but it's kinda sad.

I'm using the SWF opener application on Walfas, is this not affected by this tragedy?

It's possible that it may still work but it could need more work to keep it running. If we're lucky having pre-existing flash installations may get around it.
