There's no plan to make a finished version at this point, mostly due to lack of skills in coloring

Indeed, both a fast drawing and an apparently fast defeat. Both work very well, in my opinion. The hand (dead) in lower left, the maybe-helmet mid-right, the stricken soldiers with arrow lying in shadow while the conquerers stand victorious in lighter shades all work very well for me.
