Description
Full size print available...email me at wayneruth2000@yahoo.co.uk or note me via dA if you're interested in purchasing. So it's finished ( probably ) ...the photo I've taken of it isn't the best, but the light isn't so good now so I'll have to try taking another some other time.
This is the scene from the 1940's film Brief Encounter where the two main characters, Laura Jesson and Dr Alec Harvey played by Celia Johnson and Trevor Howard, first meet and he removes a piece of grit from her eye

4th WIP [link]
Stats:
A3 Bristol Board (so a bit smaller than my usual size)
4H, H, HB, B, 5B & 8B wooded pencils
HB, B, 2B, 3B & 4B 0.5 mechanical pencils
cotton buds
Kneadable eraser
I think it took me between 50 & 60 hours, but I'm not so sure because I put it aside for 9 months.
EDIT : I've updated the image for a scanned one, it's a bit brighter and I think more in focus too.
Also I've added a couple of close-ups in my scraps [link] and [link]

This is AMAZING! When I first saw it I was like, "omg is that a photo?!" The details are absolutely astonishing. Short attention span aside, I still wonder at your patience-the pattern on the woman's jacket is wonderfully done. I was just wondering though, what are the cotton buds used for? And how did you make the background all fuzzy like that? My art teacher told me to smear it or something but it never looks right to me D:

I use the cotton buds for blending the layers of pencil until the pencil strokes have almost disappeared on the textures like skin and his raincoat. At first I found it really hard to do fuzzy backgrounds...I'd spent so long teaching myself to see and reproduce all the fine details and then I needed to make stuff fuzzy which was completely opposite....anyway, the cotton buds come in handy here too...you just draw in your details quite loosely and then use your cotton bud to blend in small circular movements over the darker areas going past the edges so they smudge outwards, if you catch my drift....then you stand back, un-squint your eyes and voila!!
oh and thanks for your comment...glad you like it.

Thanks very much, I'm really glad you liked the film, I live in the town where they did part of the filming so I'm drawing a few scenes for the local railway station to have on display.

yeah the station clock is a big draw for lovers of the film, we get loads of people travelling here just to have their photo taken underneath it....mind you, for filming they stuck a great big cardboard face over it, to keep the continuity what with all the takes they have to do during filming.

Wow, beautiful work! Never seen the film of course, but - I love how successfully you've rendered the lighting realistically here (lighting always plays such an important role in pictures, doesn't it?), but I'm also awed by your ability to reproduce the details and textures to such a highly convincing degree. That, combined with your depth of field makes this a picture to be gawked at.

Oh my goodness, how did you do that pattern on the coat? Just wow, this is an excellent drawing, one your best in my eyes. Though Bourne will be even greater no doubt about that, it's already so good!
