Description
Alien vs Predator scratchboard ....as the title says!I had this big sheet of scraperboard/scratchboard for two years and didn't know what to do on it. Then after seeing and faving another artists alien which was drawn on black paper, it dawned on me what I should use my sheet for. Last time I did a scratchboard was one of those pre-printed foil jobbies and I was about 15. So it took me 25 years to have a bash on my own! lol.
I used a red watercolour pencil to do the gun laser bit but apart from that it's all just scratched off surface.
Can't remember how long it took me, over 25 hours though. Oh and it's 24" x 18" in size. I need to get a better picture though, quite a bit of detail has been lost...
Oh and for those of you that don't know what scratchboard is, it's board that has been covered in a chalk layer then has a coat of indian ink over it, and you get a pointy tool thing and scratch away areas of the black coat revealing the chalk layer underneath. m'kay?

red Caran d'Ache supracolor soft pencil, they are water soluble, so I licked it and it went on nice and bright.

WOW... Man that's impressive. I love scratchboard, and I just started my first attempt at it since I did it in school... It takes a long time and you did it amazingly well. I can't imagine doing it on much bigger than my little 6x6 or 8x8 pieces! Feel proud man. Feel very proud.

sometimes I reckon that bigger is easier, imagine trying to get all that detail on a small piece? go big, that's my advice, you'll get a chance to push yourself and then, when you win, you get to tell yourself 'I did that!'

Haha I like that thinking! I guess it;s easier to put in the detail with a big piece but scratchart is eveen more fine than drawing with a .5 mm pencil, and that takes foreeeever on a sheet that size. I know, I killed myself on a project that way xD Patience is the key here I suppose, even the smaller scratchboards seem to take forever with the small strokes and stuff.
But that "I did that" feel is always the best :]

Absolutely gorgeous!! Such a different way of 'drawing'. It's like doing it backwards and my brain only works in forward motion so definite kudos for creating such a beautiful piece!!!
