Like for example, as a child, she almost cut off her finger by being cocky. Though she is more aware of her cockiness, Amber still has the spirit to be cockier, just to prove everyone that not everything needs to be simple and easy. Another thing is that Amber is very social. Past story:
Being a single child, Amber was a very energetic child, having two loveable parents by her side. Her mother stayed home with her while her father was a solider, trying to protect humanity against titans. She grew up near the gates of Wall Maria but she never really cared about that. Amber was always causing mischief around the town and often got in trouble doing those things. But it was her way of enjoying herself. It was a perfect life in Amber's opinion, she didn't want anything to change. But unfortunately, it did.

At the age of 8, Amber was coming home from buying some bread at the market. When Amber had opened the door to her house, she saw her mother crying. She rushed up to her and asked what was wrong. Tears dripping down her chin, her mother put her hands on her shoulders and continued to sob. "Your father...he's dead," was all she could say. Instantly, Amber's heart sank. Did she really just say that father is dead? That wasn't possible...was it? was all that Amber could think. But it was true. Her father had gotten killed while going outside of the walls, trying to bring information about the titans. Unfortunately, he did not last, due to being caught by a 10 meter titan and immediately eaten. After hearing that, all that Amber could do was cry and stay depress. Everyday was like that, cry and stay depress. She became scared and insecure, not wanting to see any titans come by. This lasted for a year, and by the time she turned 9, Amber stopped and thought to herself. She couldn't stay sad, depressed, and scared forever. She needed to have courage, and believe in herself. So at that very moment, Amber brushed all the sadness out of her, and decided one thing: "I'm going to live outside of the walls. But before I can do that, I want to become a solider.

At the age of 11, Amber finally had made a friend. It turned out to be her neighbor, Axel Verstraete. Being her crazy self, Amber was running around and was stalking people left and right. When suddenly, her eyes had laid on the boy. He seemed to be looking up at the sky. She wondered, why? Amber slowly approached him, looking up at the sky to she what he was looking at. It's head peeked over the wall... was all she could think. When the titan had kicked Wall Maria's gate, giant boulders and small ones came flying everywhere. It was powerful. One came directly at Axel. "LOOK OUT!" Amber screamed before pushing him away from the small boulder as it hit Amber, directly in the eye. She screamed in pain. It hurt, it really did hurt. Covering her right eye, Amber looked up to see the gate completely destroyed. "No...no! Titans will come in!" Amber cried as she used her free eye to grab Axel by the hand and run towards Wall Rose, knowing that the military would be there. As they began to run, Amber looked around to see peopled dead, blood everywhere, titans coming in. For the first time after getting over her depression, she was scared. Horrified by this, she continued to drag Axel. She looked back behind her to see titans grab people and began chomping on them, one by one. By the time she and Axel reached Wall Maria, she stopped. "Where's my mom...WHERE'S MY MOTHER--" Amber cried, looking back towards the gate of Wall Maria. "No...no...NO! SHE'S BACK THERE--I HAVE TO GET HER--" she screamed, trying to run back to her home. Axel grabbed a hold of her and glared at her. "You can't go back now! You'll be eaten by titans!" he shouted at her. Crying, Amber reached out for her home. "I HAVE TO GET MY MOTHER--" She tried to reach back, but Axel quickly dragged her away to safety. Once she got to safety, Amber found her mother. Crying, she hugged her. "I thought I lost you..." she whispered, still crying to herself. They were both safe, and that's all that mattered.

A year later, Amber had finally decided to join the military with Axel. She was upset with herself, for not being brave enough. She honestly wanted to prove to everyone that she was strong enough to take on titans with a fight. Turning to Axel, she gave him a thumbs up. "LET'S DO THIS!" she shouted as she walked into the place where the 104th Trainees Squad was. "I have to be brave."
