Description

To me, Sora didn't seem to change very much over the course of the games. He did grow more confident, stronger, and learned to follow his heart, but when fighting you're forced to act or be hurt. But after everything is done... there will be a lot of time for him to think.

To me there are many types of a hero's journey: doing great deeds, over coming great obstacles, defeating great odds, etc. But my favorite is when the hero has to face something about himself, a defeat of his own ego... which Riku goes through. I suppose that's why Riku's my fave in that regards. xD But Sora is a wonderful protagonist! His brand of optimism is hard to find in characters these days (considering Squeenix). After the battle, though, he'd probably wonder if everything he did was the right thing - although there is no "right" or "wrong," just things that had to be done.

I did this a few days ago, but didn't want to post it until I did my Triptych: Riku picture so the Destiny Island Trio would be nice and lined up with each other in my gallery. XO!

there're twelve fireflies. i like the number 12. nice piccy. you're right, Sora kinda...well the most change he had was a growth spurt. you're right though, Riku had to cut down his pride a bit. i like Riku 'cause he was more.....well.....idk. that's what i wonder too. if Sora will sit down one day and think about what he's done.

When I saw the thumbnail, I was all "Oh, cool! It that anti-Sora?" Then I click it was kinda disappointed.

You know, I had similar feelings. I spent most of the second game yelling at Sora to think about what he was doing. Sure the Org. was going about it the wrong way, but is it so wrong to want a heart so you can be real? If they (the members of the Org. that were willing, and Sora) had just stopped fighting and taken a moment to figure out what they were doing in the first place I think Sora could have helped them find another way to recover their hearts (however, the game wouldnβt have been as action filled that way ^^). Axel and Demyx especially were two that did not need to have suffered the fate that they did. It could have been avoided. I really like the sorrowful feel of the picture. "What have I done? I am so sorry...Please forgive me," Sora seems to be saying. This has inspired me to write a fanfiction about Sora dealing with the emotional scars he would more than likely suffer after everything. After all, no mater how it is put, he was just a child. A strong, sure hearted child, but a child none the less. Even the victor doesnβt come out of a war completely unscathed.

wow! ^^ sora's not my favourite either but i don't hate him...yet. ha ha. i liked how he started debating what to do when he found out destroying the heartless was actually helping organization 13 but you're right...no real inner struggle yet. ha ha.(except of course trying to hold back his tears when he sees riku oh snap sora!) really like the pic, it's so dark and nice!! lol. 12 fireflies...ha ha

I love the way you used the colors in this picture. And the placement of the firefly's really accents the mood of the picture. It's so... calming. But it makes you want to smile or cry because. O.O

And while I can't completely agree with you on Sora's growth, you do have a point. I kind of wish they'd had more moments where he wasn't as optomistic and cheerful -- those seemed like big character development moments to me. Like when Saix was all 'ELL OH ELL U ARE A PAWN.' and Sora was all 'NOOOO KEYBLADE'.

I seriously love this picture, especially the idea behind it. I agree with you there when it concerns Sora's development. I guess maybe that's why I like him so much. He was the ultimate anti-angst weapon, and whenever something would get him down, he was always quick to pick himself up. I love strong heroes, and I tend to dislike or dismiss characters that spend all their time whining and yelling "Woe is me!" (Riku never did, which is why he's up there in my favorites too. He made mistakes, but he learned from them and did his best to repent and make it up to everyone without complaining or angsting.)
But somehow, with Sora, I kept waiting for something to really get to Sora. I'm also like you in that regards, because I especially like it when they have to deal with something that's connected to the antagonists or the darker sides of themselves. The thing with anti-form, Nomura didn't touch at all and the whole 'nobody' thing they only really explored in the last stretch of the game.
In any case... to the picture! One of the only problem I have with the picture is that Sora's position seems awkward. He seems to be stretching his jaw and neck forward too much, especially if he's trying to look at the firefly. Also, I don't why this stick out at me, but it feels like the shadow casting on his arm JUST below his wrist feels like it should be darker or at least a tad bit faded, because he's casting a shadow over his hand.
And now for the goodies!
I also particularly liked the way that you made the background so subtle. At first glance all you see is Sora (maybe cause im not really wearing my reading glasses which make things a bit clearerXD), but as you explore the pic more, you start to see the soft glow of the background on the trees and the forms of the foliage on the shore. It almost looks real
I also like you placed him in the water like that. Obviously there are going to be ripples, but in this case, they're drawing our eyes back to Sora and emphasizing his importance.

XD woa. I hadn't noticed I'd typed up a long comment. When i crit and comment on a pic that I particularly like, it's usually half that length, but you just got me raving about coupledom and it just kinda snowballed from there lol.
But I'm glad you found a little somethign in my comment. I'm sure you get mounds and mounds of awesome comments, but I figured maybe you might appreciate something a little more in depth.

KH talk! Riku's great in that respect - he doesn't get bogged down by his issues, but insteads works hard to fix his mistakes and help his friends.
With Sora, though, I'd have liked to see something really meaningful affect him, as you said... Too many possiblities, but not enough of them happened. (I kinda blame the script writer... Nomura didn't write the script itself. The guy who wrote FFX-2 did. >___>;;; )

Sadly I've yet to play KH2, but even through the course of KH and KH:CoM I did notice changes within Sora. I have to agree. Once its FINALLY all said and done he's gonna have a ton to reflect on, and it would be interesting to see how he'd completely grow from it.

Whilst playing through the first game for the first time, Riku just annoyed me, when you had to defeat him.
But the second time I played it through I just felt sorry for him the way Kairi and Sora left him out, yet he turned to the darkness just to help Kairi, who left him out.
So maybe I like him more than Sora...
But this is a wonderfully beautiful picture of Sora, he should go through something like Riku did xD.

You make a good point. Sora's optimism isn't that common in heroes these days, but the fact that he stopped and questioned what he had been doing, then going about what has to be done is something that makes him truly admirable.
