Knuckles walked through the airport with Tikal holding his hand. Tikal has been dreading this moment since Knuckles had told her. He had to leave for a few months and he is going to miss everything....her birthday, Christmas and New Years...
Knuckles: I know it's hard...you don't think I can feel it too? I know how it feels....
knuckes chokes back a sob

tears would roll down her cheek and knuckles softly gasped. Touching her cheek softly and reaching for her hand

as as she tries to be strong and regain her composure, she nuzzles into his hand as he holds her cheek.
Tikal:...ok...please come back to me...

I could make it short but unlike some that try to pair an official character with a fan character, these two have more of a history and to understand what is going on in the image, it'll help to know their background. Shade has had a crush on Fenix (who was also Procurator before her(What appealed to her was that he had a strong sense of duty, kind and compassionate)) since their time in the Nocturnus and even tried to console him when his fiancé and her friend died but he sought out revenge, which made him easy to be manipulated by Ix and led him to being killed by the Zoah. Seeing him as a valuable pawn, Ix had Fenix revived using the advanced tech at his disposal, unfortunately for the leader of the Nocturnus the revived echidna had a change of heart and chose not follow the Imperator's orders any more and was subsequently exiled. However when Shade went to check on Fenix, he had already left Nocturne and was told the news and was promoted to Procurator.
They wouldn't meet up until after the Nocturnus invasion where Fenix had been imprisoned by G.U.N. under suspicion of being a spy for Ix and turned into one of Eggman's agents with a virus downloaded into his implants. After Shade helps to free Fenix with some assistance, they wind up going their separate ways for some time. Two years later they once again meet however this time Shade is part of G.U.N. attempting to undo some of the damage that she caused serving under Ix and Fenix running a medical technology company, after spending time in each other's company Shade begins to think that perhaps they could finally be happy together but Fenix has enemies both inside and outside the board room that would stop at nothing to remove him and he wouldn't be able to live with himself should he be responsible if something where to happen to her. Also every time he'd look at Shade, he'd be reminded of his dead fiancé and it wouldn't be fair to her. However he does ask her to give him some time.

This...is awesome! I love the emotion caught in it.
A little bit of a spoiler but it's part of a scene for the last part of the story arc I'm still typing up (taking longer because I'm drowsy from painkillers). Even though he does care about her, Fenix explains why they cannot be together to Shade (Shade had a crush on Fenix while they were still serving under Ix, but he was to be married to her friend whom was later killed in an ambush set by the Knuckles clan). However I do intend to leave it open for possible future development, should there be support.
