No, I really appreciate it. That's a good solid joke.

No, she is hand sculpted. Made from polymer clay. She has an armature (a wire frame skeleton inside), wrapped in floral tape, then covered in polymer clay. My friend sculpts the fine details and then bakes them. We paint them and wig them with doll hair. 100% hand made, save for the base.

Yeah, all of these are handmade. My friend went to a relatively well known art store in my area for this type of stuff. I'm just the hobbyist who's slowly learning but I also handle the painting and getting the commissions. Like I said, we're always willing to do commissions for people, we offer like 2-4 weeks for completion and my friend prefers the weirder commissions.

Have you made any for yourself?

Me? I have one I'm working on but my friend made me a sculpture of my original character, Mira, and that served as our proof of concept.

Yeah, last Christmas my best friend, who is my business partner, made me this sculpture...
It is my original character, who is...
She made her for me and then pitched the idea to me that we should bring other people's OCs and whatnot to life and that's how things got started.
The sculpture I am personally working on, privately, is of my favorite historical figure, Cao Cao, the Han dynasty's last major prime minister, a brilliant warlord, and King of Wei. He is often depicted as a villain in Romance of the Three Kingdoms, China's oldest novel, but there are nuggets of truth in the depictions. A hero who overstepped his bounds to help save China from civil war but in doing so, made many enemies. He is one of the "three kings" in the story. His arch nemesis, Liu Bei is the one, and his rival, Sun Quan, is the other. Sadly, Cao Cao died at the age of 66, without uniting China. The civil war would continue another 60 years after his death. Though, while Cao Cao (he was the oldest) died first, Liu Bei died 3 years later, and then Sun Quan 32 years later, but neither won the war.

What does she look like from other angles?

Well, she's leaning forward a little, her legs are more obviously bowed but other than that, her colors are uniform across the board and she has her ponytail trailing down the back.

Familiar with it? It's a statue of a fat pregnant lady lol. The lore is that Lara Croft touched it and her belly got all babified.

Well, the owner of this commission specifically said she went into a temple, found the totem, got pregnant from it, but your little plot is cool too.

the one thing i think could use work is the eyes. i shouldn't say much because i struggle at sculpting eyes as well, but i just find they look...off. flat and kind of unnatural. to be completely honest, i find that's my biggest critique of your drawn work as well. i find your faces tend to look kind of flat, or unfocused, but also overly detailed. i wish i could offer valid criticism, but again, these are problems i struggle with in my own work, so i really don't have advice to offer...

Faces have too much detail...I somewhat get what you mean. As for the eyes, well, the clay ones, they're separate pieces of clay, baked, molding into the unfinished clay of the head. Then we put a little clear, liquid clay over them to give them the shine of eyes and to help them not look so flat. I am curious as to what you mean by my drawn faces looking unfocused. I take great pride in my work and will admit I can only draw two faces well, my OC Mira, and my other OC Alice. I admit my lack of variety but I learned the hard way to avoid experimenting with face variety and design.

i'm not sure how to properly describe it...like, they don't look like they're looking at any one thing, or one expression. it's kind of like if you put a 3D model into their default pose/expression. again, i know it's not something i should be saying because my own art suffers from the same issue. with the sculpted eyes, they seem to lack color, which is another thing that seems off about it... like, the level of detail for the mouth vs. eyes kind of throws things off. that's more of a personal preference though. i don't like big, detailed mouths/lips, when clearly you do.

I personally, prefer big, expressive eyes, and long, big noses. When you say lacks color, what do you mean? The eyes or the faces in general?

mostly on this sculpture in particular, her eyes don't seem to have any color to them, just the black iris'

Hm, well, you're correct on that it seems to lack color, the only brown we had was actually quite dark, I will have to invest in a lightly brown paint. But if you look back on the other 3 sculptures, especially my Mira, you'll see the eyes.
But no, we're low on diversity with brown paint, I will have to find some.

ahh, okay, it just didn't show up well in the pictures haha
you can always mix your own colors as well to get more accurate tones. also, looking through your other sculptures, i do find the eyes and faces better and more expressive

You're fine, it is super hard to see on Lara here. This was the best shot we got that showed off as much as we could with her. Low hanging belly, bowed legs, facial expression, details, kind of hard to mix. Our Mira sculpture, though we did a collage of it, it can't zoom, it lost its resolution so I opted not to do that again.
