Description
We were shooting the thousands of doves at the Cubitje Quap waterhole in the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, South Africa, when this lanner falcon struck gold by catching one. I was busy shooting the lanner ripping the dove to peaces in seconds, when the Goshawk suddenly appeared in my viewfinder... Yip, the downside of fixed focals (not that I would have had the chance to adjust a zoom...)You can read more about how this image was captured on MY BLOG

What an absolutely stunning capture. I don't think the goshawk being out of focus is detremental to the piece at all. I think it gives that punch of surprise! Really great moment and the focus is splendid on the lanner falcon and the feathers going everywhere give it that sense of movement. Great capture!

Rudi, this is brilliant man! Props at shifting your focus on the camera so quickly, cause this must have been a split second thing. I mean, had the focus still been on the other bird, the photo wouldn't have had nearly the same striking and amazing effect it had. With shots like these, there is a certain amount of luck, but that is limited to what is happening in front of the lens. Lucky was you having the opportunity, but the shot is sheer brilliance and shows your ability as a photographer.
Bliksems mooi man!
