My reaction and thoughts on panel #5:

That white wedge had me wondering a long time. Is he throwing something? Is he reaching for a cane? Is he projecting an energy beam? Finally, I realized that it's wall trim. But since it doesn't receive the shadow cast by the bed on the wall, I thought it was an object in space in front of the hand and above the knife.

The top plane of the trim is dark and heavy and the bottom edge is relatively light. Reversing the weights would help to nail it to the wall.

Toning it would blend it with the wall and would help subordinate it to the knife.

Note how the trim runs parallel to the knife and takes the eye right past it, instead of right to it. The cones of light and wedges of shade/shadow reinforce this effect.

Since the center of interest is the knife, the contrast around it should be the most intense in the composition: black and white. This is gray on black and black on gray - minimal contrast.

Kinda the long way around it, but I see it. Thank you.

It's alright. Don't apologize for it. I wish I can engage you with your observations just don't have the time. Thank you though.

This is exercise to make me a better artist. Delivering crits and explaining fundamental concepts and techniques is a way to augment the time I put in at the board and accelerate my progress. When someone actually engages me that's icing on the cake.

Michelangelo said "A man paints with his brain, not his hand." I think what he was driving at is that the artist must acquire both knowledge and skill. How the artist goes about that is a personal choice. I respect yours and I'm happy you respect mine.

(And once in a while isn't it nice to get something more than an "Awesome, Dude!" And to get called on it when you pull a fast one?)
