Description
Quick sketches of the main cast for How To Train Your Dragon (opens March 26th 2010 in North America). It is different from the original book, so if you have read or are planning to read it...yes. Big differences.
The movie itself doesn't reinvent anything: it is an often told story with known themes, so no big surprises. What is important though is trying to tell it well, and for a movie that was done in barely more than a year (feature animated films usually take 2 to 4 years), I believe it has succeeded.
The more fun to draw are the other kids (the twins Ruffnut and Tuffnut, Fishlegs and Snotlout), Gobber and Toothless. Sorry Hiccup and Astrid!

Sometimes it's a nightmare for the readers too *shudder at the thought of a Tuffnut or Snotlout/Hiccup pairing*

NO ONE IS SAFE FROM THE SHIPPERS.
I read the books. They're as different as North and South. Both are good, though!
Love it!

Funnily enough, while I usually love anything with dragons, I can't stand the book. At first, I didn't even wanted to watch the movie.

I didn't like the books much either. The later ones were better, though!

I couldn't even pass the first half of the first book XD
IMO, the movies and the series are a LOT much better. Can't wait the third movie !

I love to find realistic versions of the movie's dragons But I'd like to know what they had in mind when they created the Gronkle XD How could this thing be able to fly ? XD

Bumblebee. That's what I think of when you say that. BUMBLEBEE.Β

A car-weight fat bumblebee ? XD
Not sure the physic would allow it to work XD

I think Gronkles were basedΒ on bumblebees. They even make a bit of a buzzing sound, their shape is eerily similar, at least for insects (segmented bodies), and they do have a tough time flying. For a while, didn't science say that it was physically impossible for bumblebees to fly?Β

*cough*, true Β
Even that, with their weight... When I made a reference for that species, to be sure they would fly, I... cheated a little on the frequencies of the wing-beat ratio by seconds I have read it would be close to 300 by seconds, but it seems a "little" too less for allowing them to fly. IMO, it would be at least 10 times this number.Β What do you think ?

I think so as well. You're good at this sort of thing!

Fumseck73 In reply to DragonsAddicted [2016-01-13 21:39:33 +0000 UTC]
Originally, I miscalculated, which lead me to think that they were beating they wings 3 000 times by second XD
The I re-read my sources, and realized I've put 3 "0" instead of two. By I'll stay on my number, looks a lot more logical (even if I'm not sure it would be physically possible XD).
But oh well, when you see the big dragon fly, it shouldn't even be possible, unless magic exist.

When I'm writing my own version of the Book of Dragon, I'm trying to be as scientific and realistic as possible with these giant fire-breathing flying reptiles XD
Leads me to a lot of discussions with me beta-reader, but it's pretty fun when we try to explain how a living animal can produce acetylene, for example XD Or Lava in its belly

Unless someone is willing to make realistic illustrations of the dragons x)
