Description
NOTE! DOWLOAD FOR FULL SIZE!* Fixing in post refers to post-production. Post production is everything that happens after filming: editing, music, sound fx, visual fx, etc. Everything that needs to be cut and put together for the final film.
A little follow up to the previous page.

Not so much discussion about storyboards, but wondering why certain choices were made.
Could it be the movie had to make budget choices?
Everything here is just pure speculation, of course.

No joke. Shymalan had "We'll fix it in post' on a T-Shirt as he filmed the (lurches) live action movie.Β
At the very least his career does seem to be coming back around. He made two pretty good movies, and I hope he can keep this streak up.
But if he thinks about going near the Last Airbender again, I'll be very disappointed.Β

I don't know what the deal was, but I know that if even my 10 year old niece was disgusted by the way that the live action film went, something must have seriously gone wrong. Not the type of story to try to cram into 90 minutes at all!

Fair criticism I agree.
And kudos on your part in showing that the problems with the film were due to difficulties on the part of the behind-the-scenes crew.
I still think the movie version was inferior though.

I'm pretty sure the behind the screen crew did their darn best job that they could.
But they also have to follow the directions from the upper echelons.
Someone, somewhere, did a bad call. Or two. Or many.

You should of directed the movie!
No seriously. It would of been MUCH better.
Haha poor komodo rhinos. Was it that hard to model three horns on their heads? I've done 3D modelling in a course and it wouldn't have been any trouble. They probably saved a few hours on rendering time. =_=
I can't believe I tortured myself to actually watch this movie. I was face palming the whole way through it.
All your "lessons" have been great. They've actually helped me with this stuff too.

Oh that oil rig excuse sounds like bullshit. They could have just modelled the oil rig, then shot it in a factory floor. Not that it matters, Haru's storyline shouldn't even be in the movie. He and his father are arguably some of the least essential characters in the series. They should have included Aang's duel with king Bumi, or the Kyoshi warriors instead, those are much more plot relevant..
Frankly, the whole idea of doing the whole series in 3 movies is fundamentally flawed. There is just too much essential content to cram it down. I say stretch it out to 4, or 5. Then move a few events around, and amplify the epicness of others (straighten them so the make for good movie-endings) of others, you'll have an awesome movie series.

People keep on saying that there will be another The Last Airbender, but they always say that. They're won't be, thank fuck. They barely made it into the black after production and promotion costs. They only scooted by the rep for the first one, and no fucking way that's lasting through to the second.

Well, it's doubtful. Like I said, the first one was awful, and only broke-even through because of the fan base from the original show. In addition, high-concept fantasy pieces like this are usually avoided by the general public because the general public doesn't like movies where they actually need to think about the world the story is presenting in order to understand it.
That's why transformers was so successful. They stripped all the cool high-concept stuff and replaced it with cheap gags and
TLA doesn't have the mass market appeal like drivel such as Fast and The Furious, and it doesn't have large niche audience like that basically get all their friends and family to come. They have no audience, and worse yet, not talent.
The movie cast a large number of unknowns, except for all the fire nation characters oddly. In addition, there are two opinions about M. Night Shyamalan: That he makes shitty movies because he's a shitty director, and he makes shitty movies because he's a great director who has trouble managing is greatness.
All that combined leads me to one conclusion: They aren't making a sequel. So why are they saying they are? For the exact same reason they say that about almost every film: Because admitting there is no chance of a sequel requires you to badmouth the movie, and that means both lower profits from Ticket Sales (while the movie is still in theaters) DVD and BluRay purchases, and rentals. People also don't want to hire anyone (actors, grips, directors, et cetera) who they know might ridicule the movie, and so if you do say bad things about it, you're blacklisting yourself.

Keep it up and I'll keep using you as inspiration.
Ah, before i forget. How long does it take you to do one of these panels? I want to start timing myself ^^

(late reply is very late)
You mean storyboard panels or comic panels? Rough like that, anything between 5 and 10 minutes each. Depends on the details or complexity. Something very simple, and it could be done a lot quicker...or longer.

XPCoffee In reply to rufftoon [2011-01-23 10:59:48 +0000 UTC]
ouf, (*slaps his face*) I'm nowhere near that. Its taking me 20-30 mins for a panel and sometimes it takes that long just doing one person and that's just the drawing never mind the colour (gah!).. but thanks, your time has set a challenge and life would be boring without challenges. to the sketch pad!

It's like a Monty Python skit.
Run away! Run away!
Narrator: As the legendary stone sloughed forward, escape for the Fire Nation soldiers seemed hopeless. When, suddenly, the CG animator suffered a fatal heart attack. The pixelated terror was no more. The quest to convince everyone that the movie wasn't THAT bad continued.

I want to know why the creators of the cartoon allowed this movie to happen the way it did. Didn't they have any say at all? X.x;
π: 0 β©: 1
rufftoon In reply to LethalPepsi [2010-11-29 22:49:11 +0000 UTC]
Not really- they may be the creators, but the studio owns the characters. If anything, they had a small advisory role, meaning their opinion could easily be discarded.

I don't know at all what their opinion of the movie is. I'm just saying that they had very little to no control-input in the final result of the live action movie.
