Not so much discussion about storyboards, but wondering why certain choices were made.
Could it be the movie had to make budget choices?
Everything here is just pure speculation, of course.

I had to shut down half of my brain to watch the movie, but after reading this I feel like braving it again (for the sake of komodo rhinos) Thanks so much!

I'm not sure watching the movie again will help Komodo Rhinos, but...
You are a braver person than I am to watch it again.

These days, mostly drawing on PS. But I do love to return to more traditional tools. Inking with a brush pen is fun.

I love these TLA comics. The illogic rampant in the movie really iritated me, that and the wooden acting, Aang not smiling, the poorly laid out plot, the montages, the near impotance of the benders' powers, the voice overs.....
Love the rock! [link]

hey M. Night, try shooting your movie in 2-D next time then you might have enough dough to pay quality cinematographers, screen writers, actors and get a decent location!!!!

Decent location for what? That's a complaint I've never heard regarding the film.
What are you saying?

lovevigilanti In reply to Superstarsix [2010-10-02 18:12:33 +0000 UTC]
honestly i probably wrote this at like 4 a.m. and didn't really know what i was writing but i think what I was talking about was with the earth bending scene they could have gotten a better location for that.

Superstarsix In reply to lovevigilanti [2010-10-02 21:28:01 +0000 UTC]
Well if you saying that a better location would have been anywhere that doesn't have earth all around them, I agree.

I do believe he shot it in 2D- it was converted in 3D after it was all done. A bad habit of some Hollywood studios (see this year's "Clash of the Titans" as another bad 3d Conversion story).

LOL, rufftoon, these have really made my day! Week, even.
Perhaps month. (HEEEEEEEEEEEEEEY MACARENA! OY!)
well, at least I still don't want to shoot myself in the foot for seeing the movie anymore. These criticisms are worth it!
Me and my FiancΓ©e went to the Midnight opening; during the opening dialog, the first time Katara said "Ooooong", half the theater threw their hands up in the air and yelled WTEEEFF?!
Even looking at it from a non-fan's point of view, it was terrible.
Only part that I laughed at was the dance-off with the Earthbenders. And that was from pure-fail.

The Komodo Rhino with no horns reminds me of the changes they did to the look of the characters in Eragon ....the elves didn't have pointy ears, the dragon had feathers on the wings....the bad guys didn't have their horns....I just don't understand why they do that....

What it pissed me more of this movie is Ozai's personality , he was way too nice O-o it wasn't only the beard and hair they took, but also all his pure evilness.

I think that Night guy is just a little too egotistical. Pride can easily lead to doing the most stupid of things. Like taking something popular, turning it into a movie, and then "making it better" somehow.
Then again, I don't know him personally, nor have I even talked to him. So, it's hard to know. Still, if he thinks he knows better than anyone else, including the fans, it'll show in his work.

The little brave floating rock that could!!
Goodness....I've read the rants, I've enjoyed your comic about the movie, and I have to tell you, Dear Rufftoon, I bravely went to watch "The Last airbender" yesterday with a friend, dubbed in Latin American Spanish, (THANKS GODS FOR THAT!) and you girl, have been VERY GENEROUS with what you have said.
The movie is not bad. But leaves you feeling that even if the Theater gave you back the ticket money, they still owed you.
The Spanish dub did wonders to cover the poor expressionless acting from the original. At least they feel genuinely into their acting.
I can't say which bits were worse, but when the movie reached the part of the Earth Benders, and I saw the "MACARENA" steps... several people in the theater chanted " EEEEEEI MACARENA UAAAH" and laughed. XD

Nah, the acting by the kids in the first Harry Potter films wasn't that much better.
Although most people were enthralled and got sucked into that world. There were many problems with The Last Airbender. Acting was a major factor but even the best actor has to have some good material to work with.

These are good simple fixes. But shots like the long rotating ones don't really offer many editing choices. I'm thinking that the editors wished they had extra shots to work with but with what they were stuck with produced the disastrous result. Or the editors sucked.
Everything about this film is bad, the acting, the writing, the cinematography, and the editing. This is a fundamentally bad film.

rufftoon In reply to Zansake [2010-08-24 18:15:48 +0000 UTC]
Usually, an editor would have a few options to be able to make his cuts work.
In this case, maybe there were less options or he had to go with the lesser evil.

The film is a fiasco, right? There's no way there's going to be a sequel, right? Just cartoon sequels but not bad movies sequels, right?
