A little follow up to the previous page.

Not so much discussion about storyboards, but wondering why certain choices were made.
Could it be the movie had to make budget choices?

Everything here is just pure speculation, of course.

At least it wouldn't have felt so rushed and then they could have more budget for each thing. (if that makes sense)

Half a season = one movie. OMG I was telling my mum and sibling the exact same thing!!! And your name is epic.

I find these comics fastinating, and they really have a lot of useful insight without being unjustly rude or snarky towards the film. The filmmakers would do well to read these comics for hints and tips

I don't think I could be totally rude or snarky.
But I'm bull headed and am just not letting go of that movie, ha ha!

Well to be fair you're in a better position to critacise than most other critics who just slam the film because they don't understand the world behind Avatar (especially the ones who in the first line of reviews manage to say 'this film is based on the Nickelodeon ANIME series Avatar'....yeesh)

And it's constructive critacism rather than just 'OMG THIS SUUUUUX'

Where are the six Earthbenders moving the rock? They should've been in the shot! (Kidding!)
I really love your comics!

They're somewhere off screen. Still dancing, moving that lone slow rock.

One has to wonder where those $150 million went! ONE HUNDRED AND FIFTY MILLION DOLLARS!!! WHAT HAPPENED TO THEM?!?

Otacon144 In reply to Pretty-Angel [2010-08-16 09:19:46 +0000 UTC]

Seriously - add in the advertising budget and Paramount poured a total of $280 Million into this movie.

And they made $50 Million on opening weekend. So who's paying for the other 230 Million? Forget not getting another movie deal; I'm surprised Shyamalan didn't get fitted for concrete shoes after that!

loganleewei In reply to Pretty-Angel [2010-08-17 09:51:44 +0000 UTC]

How did they end up hiring him in the first place? He had no previous experience working with loads of CG and "big" budgets... The least they could have done is turn him down and looked for someone better (*cough Ang Lee). Peter Jackson would have made a good producer... He could have funded it well.

Pretty-Angel In reply to loganleewei [2010-08-17 10:02:00 +0000 UTC]

Honestly, I have no idea! How anyone would hire M. Night Shyamalan to make a martial arts action flick is beyond me. I mean, I heard he kinda showed up and wanted to make the movie but I don't know why they actually allowed him to do it. Maybe he's just freaking good at pitching ideas to a studio?

loganleewei In reply to Pretty-Angel [2010-08-17 10:50:38 +0000 UTC]

Well, if Lindsay Lohan walked in and said "Hi I would like to act as Mother Theresa." Would you just say, "Okay here you go, you acted well in the past." Focus on PAST. Nothing against Lindsay but her redhead freckly success has long gone. Same as M.Night. Unless you successfully redeem yourself in indie flicks (kinda like when Agassi played low-leveled Challenger tourneys... ) then yeah, okay. What were they thinking really!!! :sighs: Done ranting =="

rays for Donnie Yen and Sammo Hung and Brandon Soo Hoo and Ang Lee to work in the REBOOT edition:

Beautiful northern Water Tribe set, shooting in Greenland and that CG doesn't come cheap.
I'd be curious to know how much Appa cost.

loganleewei In reply to rufftoon [2010-08-17 09:47:25 +0000 UTC]

A lot maybe? Because we only see him and Momo like a couple times or so. My mum said that Appa looked like an ugly beaver thing. And she's an ATLA fangirl mmkay. The Kyoshi thing was weird too. And have you noticed that Katara ran, slows down, tackles a dude and waits?? Ka-tackle!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

rufftoon In reply to loganleewei [2010-08-17 16:49:52 +0000 UTC]

Looks ike right after that tackle, Katara is like "Oh Sh..., what have I done" and looks around to see how others will react. Keep an eye on the guy you just pushed, girl!

loganleewei In reply to rufftoon [2010-08-18 08:37:11 +0000 UTC]

It was so weird!!! And my mum hated the tai-chi scene. Yes, we know waterbending is based on taichi (which is all about breath rather than "emotion"; what the crap MNight) but that scene wasted 1-2minutes of many peoples' lives... The least they could do is be SYNCHRONIZED! Still, it was very unnecessary no matter what. It did however show us that Noah had a background but needed work on the gracefulness while Nicola was just simply doing the moves...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

DOTB18 In reply to loganleewei [2010-08-24 21:48:53 +0000 UTC]

That scene would have been marginally better if there was waterbending involved. Seriously, what's the point of waterbending practice IF YOU'RE NOT BENDING ANY @#$ING WATER?!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

loganleewei In reply to DOTB18 [2010-08-25 09:20:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, with water maybe... But was not in sync or even interesting... It is after all tai-chi... Which only fun to watch if there was calming music and instructions lol

Pretty-Angel In reply to rufftoon [2010-08-16 09:18:47 +0000 UTC]

Idk, seeing as other productions manage to pull of fantastic sets and CGI thorough a complete movie (not just parts of it) with a similar budget I am not sure if that's quite accurate. I suppose it also has a lot to do with crappy planning and stupid money management.

James Cameron went over-budget with the other Avatar. He managed to make an epic. So why M Night, why???

Impossible to judge from outside. Movies are complex organisation. Who knows the ramification of all that happened during the making of the film.

**The Princess hits the floor, laughing ... AGAIN!**

This is so priceless!

Having been on stage a number of times and have done a bunch of student films and even a few cast calls for animation shorts, I can sympathize with the actors. However, beyond the stars and their talent, much of the rest is just cattle ... I mean replacing problem-some extras is rather simple.
