Description This is Cody's mother, drawn for the Disney Club's Spitfire Mother's Day contest.

I didn't have much of a clue who to draw when I heard about this contest; I didn't want to draw a mother that anyone else was going to draw, and I didn't want to draw a suggested mother, so I thought hard about it and then remembered Cody's mother, from The Rescuer's Down Under. I honestly feel sorry for this lady, she lives out in the back of woop woop, with only herself and Cody, (her husband is already dead), and Cody has not returned home like he should have. She calls out for him, but he doesn't return. She informs the rangers that her only child is missing, and a few days later they return with just his half eaten backpack. She knows her son is dead (only we know he's just been kidnapped and locked in cage and tormented by a poacher). I would have probably bawled my eyes out if they showed Cody reuniting with his mum.

Anyway, the most difficult part of this drawing was deciding how much of Cody's mother's face to draw, since you never actually see all of her face. Even though you can only see half of her face, I really want to try and keep her the focus, so I had to have her clearly hugging Cody wither arms in front. I don't know if it worked or not. Either way, I'm at least it's better than most of my work.

You can stop reading here if you want.

Now, to the movie; I think that the movie is severely underrated. It is by far the best sequel, but even on it's own I think that it is an amazing movie. It has a great score, a lovable cast of animals, a golden eagle that we all wished we had as our own friend as children, an awesome villain, and, Joanna. I don't need to say more about Joanna but I will anyway; she is awesome. I can name all of the female characters in Disney that were the comedy characters; Flora, Fauna, Merriweather, Turk, and Joanna. That's not much, and I think Joanna was very memorable as a child. Also, the story isn't just about the children of the main characters. I have this recurring nightmare that they make another sequel to this movie and Bernard becomes an over protective father who doesn't want his son to be part of the Rescue Aid Society and Bianca loses all of her personality. I wake up screaming. But yes, the story follows a decent line and it's really enjoyable.

On an end note, I wouldn't be Australian unless I expressed my thoughts on how bad the accents were in this film; terrible. Okay, since most of the characters didn't even try I'm just going to comment on the ones who did. Cody's mother sounded more like she was attempting a horrid English accent, Jake's accent was more like a typical Steve Irwin accent, so while it still is incredibly annoying with the overuse of the term 'mate', I'll forgive him because it was meant to be that way. Now, the winner of the Best Australian Accent Award in this movie is... The radio guy. Yep, the man who announces that the search for the missing boy has been called of. His accent is even better than mine. And amazingly enough, I've actually heard people that sound like that. I have to wonder if Disney got an actual Australian to do his part. Anyway, enough of my rant. I still love the movie. Until next time (when I have a rant about the accents in Finding Nemo)!

Sorry about the long comment; Happy Mother's Day Mummy, and all else out there on Deviantart!

I wonder whatever happened to all the animals in the basement of Mcleach's compound? Like Red, Krebs, Frank, etc.

Oh man! I thought I was going to be the only one who even thought about these two. Now I feel unoriginal.

Really good drawing. I like the composition and how, despite not seeing her whole face, you can see all the emotions in the mother's face. The subtle tears are also a very effective touch.

Reading the description, it seems like you and me are on the same wavelength about this movie. My feelings exactly on RDU and how horrible the events of the movie must have been for Cody's mother.
And, yes, those accents are terrible. Heck, Cody is straight up American!

Best of luck in the contest!

Haha, I thought I was going to be the only one too, but that's okay, it's kind of cool that we thought of the same thing. Besides, I'm kind of only beginning as an artist, so when I go on Deviantart it's to find fan art for my favourite movies, so I'm really glad that you drew the scene that I would have loved to see in the movie, because you drew it perfectly. I'm also glad someone agrees with me about Cody's mother, I always found it the saddest part of the movie as a child when Cody's mother was calling out for him to come home.

Good to luck to you too!

oh my god this is how the movie should have ended What Were They Thinking.

anyway even though they barly showed Cody mother I do have very good imagination to what she look like.

Rumibelle In reply to Makosharkman [2015-03-24 08:42:02 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it would have been nice to have that as the ending, but I sure they didn't have enough time or thought it wasn't thinking, but it's okay - we can imagine.
I think the movie gives us enough of her face so that we know what she would look like, but leaves enough of it so that she is out of focus. I think it's interesting anyway.

why not just for one ending or added a little more they could have used the last scene where they showed what Wilber was up to for this scene instead.

yeah it does like in the scene where they showed The Ranger going to Cody mother house and showing her Cody Backpack that was found buy the Crocadile river and when she holds it and is obviously grieving for her little boy you see her mouth but not her eyes all we have to guess is her eye color and there shape and yeah they do that a lot in Disney Cartoon and other animated films they show the kids but barley show the parents and definably leave out there faces the last one they I remember seeing that on was That film from Dreamworks animation called Rise of the Guardians. have you seen that film yet?

Rumibelle In reply to Makosharkman [2015-03-27 22:12:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, a scene where you can just see the silhouette of Cody running into his mother's arms would have been nice at the end, but they had to have Wilbur as their end gag. At the same time, it's nice to know the eggs survived. I'm not too unhappy about the ending because I know that eventually Cody's mother and Cody will be reunited and I can imagine the scene to be perfect.
I have not watched Rise of the Guardians yet, sorry, but I actually think that would be strange to partially leave out someone's face in a 3D movie. I'll have to watch it and find out

Makosharkman In reply to Rumibelle [2015-04-02 23:49:09 +0000 UTC]

well they could have still had Wilbur like they could have had reunited Cody with his mom and Bernard gets the feeling they forgot something then they show what Wilbur is up to.
but how do you picture Cody reuniting with his mother looking like?

you will love it its epic.

also out of curiosity do you take request?

Rumibelle In reply to Makosharkman [2015-04-03 00:38:32 +0000 UTC]

Yeah that would actually be kind of cool. But I guess it's too late now, haha. I guess I just picture them crying. And you would probably only see their silhouettes because it's dark. That would be nice.

Um, I've never had anyone ask for a request before, so I don't know, as long as they don't mind if it's late and if I can't get it to look right it might come out terrible, I guess I would do it. But I'd probably have to be interested in what I was being asked to draw as well. But I'd be willing to give it a go, since no one's actually losing anything.

Makosharkman In reply to Rumibelle [2015-04-03 03:29:14 +0000 UTC]

and you wonder why didn't they think of that. that is exactly how I pictured them reuniting Cody mom crying over her little boy saying OH MY BABY and Cody buring his face in his mother chest saying I Love You Mommy or I Am okay Mom I Am Okay.

well i was wondering if you could draw a picture base on a book I am writing about this boy who Santa Clause himself adopted what do you think of that?

Rumibelle In reply to Makosharkman [2015-04-04 11:32:15 +0000 UTC]

Haha, yeah, something like that.

Well, actually, I'm not too good at designing characters or drawing any characters without reference, so I think that I won't be able to complete a drawing of a character from a book you're writing yourself, however, if you like, if I ever get around to having a go (which I cannot guarantee) I can note you and credit you in the artist comment.
I am sorry about not being able to guarantee, it's just that I have tried to draw characters without reference before and it hasn't turned out too well.

yeah that would have been wicked.

oh really sorry I had no idea I guess I could think of something you know then like have you seen Oliver and Company or The Swan Princess.

also did you ever see Maleficent with Angelina Jolie?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rumibelle In reply to Makosharkman [2015-04-12 02:57:32 +0000 UTC]

It's okay. Yeah, I've seen both Oliver and Company and the Swan Princess. I would be better at drawing the Swan Princess though, since they are human and I'm not good with animals. So yeah, I could draw something with them if you like, but I'm not sure when I could get it done by.

Yeah, I saw the Maleficent movie, but I didn't really like it. I did not like how they simply changed the story completely to make Maleficent the outright hero while Stephen was the outright villain. If they left the characters somewhere in between it would have been better.

Makosharkman In reply to Rumibelle [2015-04-13 03:52:02 +0000 UTC]

I see well could you draw Jenny from Oliver and Company hugging her parents when they come home just like you have with Cody and his mother here.

and as for Derek and Odette like maybe you could draw Derek and Oddette  becoming King and Queen of Odette father kingdom because I wonder why they moved into Rotbart castle in the second one.

and could you draw who Derek father was and who Oddette mother was?

and maybe draw them having kids

and maybe you can draw that frog finally becoming a Prince

and like could you draw a Alternate Universe of the Swan princess i am writing that I first ask you like say shortly after Derek mother and Oddette father got the idea to bring there children together to unite there kingdoms and after Oddetts Christning when eight year old Derek and his mother are on there way home his mother tells him what she and Oddett father have got planed for him and the boy is not happy he feel depress for months until Christmas Eve when young Derek is asleep in his room and he see Santa fly his sled past his bedroom window and hears Santa slay land on the roof of his castle and Derek goes down to the Christmas tree to see Santa putting present buy his tree and the boy says Oh Boy Santa which gives the old man a fright Santa turns around to see eight year old Derek and Santa tells the boy to be very quite and not wake anyone then ask the kid what he wants for Christmas and Derek tells Santa about how his mother making him date a girl and he wishes he wasn't and says he just wants to be taken away to some where where he will be happier Santa wants to help the boy so he ask young Derek if he wants to come with him to the North Pole and live with him as his son where he will have all the fun in the world  Derek says yes in a excited as you can imagine the boy saying and Santa scoops the boy into his arms and carries the kid away and takes him to the North Pole to raises the kid as his own son and little Derek lives better easier happier and permanent childhood up at the North Pole just like the boy in my story.

like I was wondering if you could draw Derek as a little boy either getting scoop into Santa arms or getting snuggled in Santa arms or just wondering around the North Pole if your not interested in that idea then never mind.

like what do you mean in between? like the movie was reaveling more about Maleficent character like what drove her to the dark side because think about it we all know the story if Sleeping Beauty we know what happen at the Christning but we have never known what happen before until now besides that movie was more of a mystery then a fairy tail because haven't you wonder what maid a fairy like Maleficent go bad in the first place and now we all know.

Rumibelle In reply to Makosharkman [2015-04-14 08:54:28 +0000 UTC]

I would like to draw Derek and Oddette becoming King and Queen, only because that's the only one I think I'd be able to draw. However, there are a couple of personal projects that I'd like to do first, so if or when I get around to it, I'll note you

Like, I felt that the movie was trying to say that not everyone is evil, or born evil. But then they went and made King Stephan evil for no reason. Plus they changed the events of the Sleeping Beauty while claiming it to be the same story, and then saying that the original was the "wrong" story, which would be fine, except that in the end it didn't teach me anything new because there was still evil and good and nothing in between. In short, I felt that the movie was an unnecessary extension of Sleeping Beauty with added clichés that make it relevant and appealing to a new audience. Plus I don't think Maleficent needed a reason to be evil in Sleeping Beauty. Sorry that I don't like it, but I understand if you do
