Again, that depends on what era Godzilla we're talking about. He's been an anti-hero, a villain, and a force of nature throughout his 60 years. He's whatever any film needs him to be. Currently, Big G's back at his 1954 roots in the 2014 film but even then, he wasn't invincible. I seem to recall him getting wailed on a lot by the Mutos and he does have an added weakness: his gills. The Mutos even exploited that weakness by aiming several hits at them specifically.  

Big G has been defeated before and there was one time where humans managed to kill him, using the Oxygen Destroyer.

Well of course, the M.U.T.O.s evolved to kill Godzilla's species so they could devour them. The M.U.T.O.s were not weaklings and Godzilla didn't have any problems with the M.U.T.O.s until they teamed up on him. He easily pummeled the larger female without much effort and the male was only hard to hit because he kept taking Godzilla by surprise and he kept attacking Godzilla from the back which is difficult for Godzilla to react due to his bulky stature and shorter arms. However even then, Godzilla still learned the male M.U.T.O.'s strategy and turned it against him. By themselves, the M.U.T.O.s can't "wail" on Godzilla like you claim because as I recall, he did most of the wailing until they teamed up on him. Smaug is by himself though which leaves the argument of the M.U.T.O.s wailing on Godzilla completely invalid. Oh yeah, his gills... except nothing in the film actually punctured his gills. Grant it, he was hit in the gills a couple of times but all that really did was piss him off into destroying the Golden Gate Bridge and in the long run with the M.U.TO.s, it didn't do anything fatal to him. If Godzilla's gills were destroyed, it wouldn't kill him but it would hurt and probably render his water breathing abilities useless for a time (until they regenerate of course). Apparently, you also seem to have forgot that a harpoon actually knocked one of Smaug's scales off (which never grew back of course so) and later in the story, Smaug is killed by a fucking arrow... and Godzilla got hit by a nuclear bomb and it did NOTHING to him. At that point, all those previous points are invalid .

Well no shit, I'm pretty sure everyone knows that by now... except that Smaug isn't using an Oxygen Destroyer in this fight . Again, Godzilla got killed by an Oxygen Destroyer... Smaug dies from an arrow... not much competition there.

Speed and maneuverability don't mean much when you are too weak to cause any significant damage to your bigger, slower opponent. It just keeps you alive a little longer. So what if Smaug's fire can melt Rings of Power? Godzilla takes lava baths in the heart of a volcano. Godzilla has also tanked all sorts of things Smaug would not: artificial black holes, meteors, nukes, and he came out of all of them with barely a scratch. Godzilla is also a veteran of many battles and is no stranger to swifter opponents. All he has to do is analyze the attack pattern and capitalize on its weaknesses. One hit is all Godzilla needs to destroy Smaug, and Smaug has nothing that can hurt Godzilla. Godzilla's pretty smart too, you know.

Knowing this, Smaug would not even dare confront Godzilla. It would be like challenging Glaurung or Ancalagon.

If I were to do an analysis between Smaug and Godzilla, I would use either the Showa Godzilla or the 1999 Godzilla.
