Description Goddammit, Dante, when they said 'gimme that old time religion', they didn't mean fucking Moloch.

Well, here we are, at #100. There's still some flashback to go from here, but I've got the comics leading up to the end of that all written out, and after that? It's the sprint to the finish line. I've been wanting to talk about my reasons for choosing this take on why the Purple Guy did the murders for awhile now, and #100 seemed like the best place to do it. There was a lot of brainstorming that went into this with my betas, because there's one major problem with having your comic's protagonist be the Purple Guy: he whacked at least one birthday party's worth of children. That's not something you can gloss over. So, how do you approach this, as a writer?

The one thing I knew absolutely wanted to avoid was the 'I'm craaazzzzy lolmurder' approach. It's cheap, lazy writing to just go 'lolmurder just because' and leave it at that. And as my one beta pointed out, there are a very few number of reasons a grown man would kill children, and 'for the insurance money' doesn't work here, and another reason is one I'm not willing to touch with a ten foot pole, let alone use as fuel for black comedy.

Dude going down the Lovecraftian spiral of madness and poor life choices in attempt to appease something he doesn't really understand but is *very, very* afraid of, though? I can work with that. There's also some influence based on what I'd heard from the director of It Follows: namely, the protagonists can make all sorts of guesswork about what they're dealing with, based on what they've found out...but that doesn't mena they're interpreting things correctly.

Maybe Dante shouldn't have quit the ouija board session so early.

FNAF and all its characters belong to Scott Cawthon, not me.

Β PANEL 1:

Springtrap: I thought I'd been desperate before, but now I was panicking. He started showing up every night, and I thought I saw him during the day sometimes, too. Like he was there, taunting me.

PANEL 2:

Springtrap: So I hit the books again. Older books, weirder books, anything I could find that would give me an idea, until-

Dante: ...oh god.

PANEL 3:

Springtrap: I struggled with it, I swear to god I did. Because...well, it was murder. Hell of a step up from dead chickens and bunnies.

PANEL 4:

Springtraput eventually...after a few more days of dodging death, a few days of still thinking about what would happen if Golden Freddy decided to start hunting during the daytime... ...well, you know that saying about the good of the many.

PANEL 5:

Dante: Hey, kid, you got left out? I work here, I can show you a back way in.

PANEL 6:

Springtrap: So...yeah. That was the first one. And it bought me a good two months, but...he got hungry again.

PANEL 7:

Dante: ...Fuck.

Springtrap: Or maybe I should say 'they'.

What does that have to do with the comic? The soul is female, not the actual marionette.

I'll admit: I STILL haven't gotten around to watching a playthrough of 6. Not that it matters much, because I've ignored everything past 4 for the comic.

I do know this a separate au but you do know that the marionette is a girl right. It’s not a complain i always though the marionette was a boy until fnaf 6 came out. I just thought it be a good idea to point that out. Please don’t ban me from making comments on your comic.

See, this is why you don't kill people in a cursed pizzeria. Still wondering how the Bite Victim even ended up there, since he died in a hospital.
I've also been wondering this for a while...would Spring Bonnie even see the murders in the same light as Springtrap and Fredbear? She has no memories of the flipside, death isn't permanent in the Fnaf world universe, and the closest thing to humans - and children - she knows of are the Crying Child, BB, and presumably JJ. And from what I can tell all characters have an adult mindset...so maybe she'd be able to understand that what Springtrap did was wrong (to put it lightly) but not to the degree that it actually is. Am I right?

RuneVix In reply to Tory127 [2018-04-10 02:23:00 +0000 UTC]

Yep, you're right. Goldie's having to go off context clues for exactly the level of bad at play here, but even then she's not getting a full picture. (Also, she's picturing everyone as robot animals as he's narrating this.)

As for the Bite Victim...well, two options here. The in-universe reason: that's what the dead kid's locked onto as the epicenter of Bad Things and everything there is going to feel his wrath over...everything. Out of universe: otherwise we wouldn't have a plot.

Tory127 In reply to RuneVix [2018-04-10 05:05:42 +0000 UTC]

Fair enough. Calling it right now that she's seeing Jorge as a badger or something.
You'd think Dante would get a clue after his first victim turned into yet another angry ghost bent on brutally murdering him. Apparently he's not that smart - or thinking straight out of terror, but he should've made the connection.

As the saying goes, insanity is trying the same thing over and over and expecting different results each time. And yeah, it's a terrible way of dealing with things, but it does buy him some time and breathing room, and with that he can surely find a way to put the current ghosts down and keep new ones from popping up, right?

...Right?

There's I nicknamed him 'Captain Poor Life Choices'.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Tory127 In reply to RuneVix [2018-04-11 12:43:08 +0000 UTC]

Captain Poor Life Choices? Best name I've ever heard for him, ever. Including his canon one. Can I just call him that now?
I'm honestly just shaking my head at him at this point. 'Okay so the kid I killed is now a ghost that wants to kill me, I can totally fix this by killing more kids that will definitely not become more ghosts out for my blood. Yeah. That'll work.' Definition of insanity in action. Must be a lot of fun to draw though.

RuneVix In reply to Tory127 [2018-04-15 21:27:50 +0000 UTC]

I highly support people using that as his nickname. And, well...not like it's unheard of for people to double down on bad ideas, even (or sometimes, especially) if they don't go as planned. People are weird. And yes, the things going horrifically wrong makes for fun things to draw. There's panels in 103 and 104 that I look forward to drawing specifically because its sort of heads off into crosses-the-line-twice comedy.

Bravo dude, now you have TWO death hungry ghosts to deal with. But, given the circumstances, there was sadly nothing he could really do. Try to tell someone they think he's crazy. He can't keep dodging Golden Freddy, and I have no ideas on what to try either. Unfortunately, child sacrifice was the inevitable end. If only the ghost kids knew where this started. They'd be on Golden Freddy instead and maybe even help stop him.

Dante's backstory is a lesson in two things: 'it got worse' and the sunk cost fallacy. And I'm glad people are enjoying this take; it feels good to finally hit this point and be able to explain it at all.

This really is a refreshing take on PG - I mean, I still want to punch some sense into the guy a few pages back before things started to escalate, but acting out of blind terror-fueled desperation does tend to make for an interesting motive and [old man] consequences.Β  As Dante is clearly all too aware of at this point.Β  I legitimately feel sorry for the dude. Β Β

Mostly pondering to myself: I am rather curious whether the Golden Freddy ghost and Tour-guide Fredbear have any overlap, and if so, how much.Β  With Fredbear's 'Otherness' (I recall you mentioning there was something very Lovecraftian about our beleaguered shape-shifting bear) I have to wonder if he has any 'real world' connection to the supernatural horrors that plagued the Pizzeria.Β  Now I want to look through previous comments and see if this has been touched on before...

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RuneVix In reply to Smilodonna [2018-04-08 23:02:21 +0000 UTC]

Fredbear and Golden Freddy are separate entities; Golden Freddy is solely the bite victim's pissed off ghost, no interfering from other parties needed. Fredbear's involvement with the issues on the flipside are just pretty much picking up the pieces afterwards-his role in the celestial bureaucracy means he doesn't come into play until people are good and dead. Trust me, he would've LOVED the chance to step in earlier and slap Dante upside the head before things got as bad as they did.

Also: there's a Golden Freddy counterpart animatronic in FNAF World, he just hasn't shown up yet. This is probably for the best.

Pretty good take on PG.

I was always interested in Purple Guy as a character because of how mysterious he was in the FNAF2 mini games. No voices or subtitles, just a sprite sliding around a glitchy with a groany sound effect. It got even weirder with the FNAF3 mini games and the reveal of his β€œdeath”.

I’ve read fan fictions where he’s pretty much portrayed as β€œcrazy and obsessed with death (and toast). Even though some of them were funny, it didn’t sit right with me. It seemed so generic and too obvious for something like FNAF.

RuneVix In reply to CrowRider1 [2018-04-08 23:06:50 +0000 UTC]

I just find 'craaaaazzzy!!1!!lol' to be the worst way out, and I think 'generic' is a good term to sum up why. I feel like it doesn't add anything to the story, and it's just so disappointing.
