Description A party of goblins out hunting in the forest might be in for a surprise they hadn't anticipated.

All 100% hand painted in Corel Painter using acrylic brushes, soft blenders and image hose (with custom nozzles for some of the foliage). Plus more hours than I care to think about!

I hope you enjoy it. Full view please!

The orginal image is 5700 x 3880 in size and prints are available via my web site .

I feel like there needs to be some kind of story to accompany this picture, just like your other painting. They need stories.

... I just feel like this picture is incomplete without a story. ^^'

You're right. There is a story behind both this and my other painting. I will try and find the time to put it together and get a paragraph or two up here.

I can only join the previous speakers and say again: What amazing details! And what I really like is that there are amlost only green and brown tones in the picture - except the fire, which makes it appear more menacing. You also did a great job on the wood nymph in the front of the picture. I only discovered her on second glance and it made me smile.

Thank you! Im glad you spotted the wood nymph, many people don't (but that's fine as I wanted it that way).

I really like the detail you have put into this picture. I don't know how to colour on the computer with Corel Painter, so I can't comment on your technique. However I think that this picture would look better if there was less green in it. Maybe you could have added some yellowish tones in the background?
Otherwise, well done, and I like the narrative style of this picture. I particularly like the tree woman in the foreground, that can hardly be noticed until you look closely.

Thank you! I seem to go down the mono-tonal road a lot with my paintings as I try and set a mood with the pallete. But you're probably right about adding in some other tones like yellow, it is a very green image. I'm glad you noticed the dryad in the foreground, so many people don't (but that's fine, she isn't intended to be obvious and it rewards those who spend time to look).

Yeah Painter is a very nice tool. You can do the same stuff in Photoshop, just that the brushes work differently. If you've ever used traditional media then the Painter brush system might feel a bit more natural.

There is no such thing as "rather carried away with the details" in my book -- There's the sincere desire to Make It Perfect!

(And yet another example, on my end, of me trying my best to put thought to word -- and on second reading it looks like the efforts of a teenager trying to be heard. Ah well. I meant what I wrote, ... no matter how it turned out!)

runique In reply to Void-Hamlet-Herself [2009-03-06 17:11:16 +0000 UTC]

No, they were good thoughts. I really should try and remember what you wrote. I worry a lot about obsessing over small details in my work (because of the time it consumes). But if that's my style I should learn to accept it and if viewers enjoy those details then that's even better.

Honestly, art to me has always been about freedom. You can depict whatever you like, the way you like it. - Carry on.
