Description Every once and awhile I'd make a noise to try and get his attention. I guess I did, I think I startled him just a bit though. Other than that he seemed really unphased by me standing below him.

as soon as I get my tax return, I'm buying the Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L and the 70-200mm f/2.8L IS for my 20D. Both are amazing lenses.

his shocked expression is great

Looking at all your squirrel pictures, I'm so jealous cuz Hawaii doesn't have any squirrels

yes, but you have alot of other beautiful things that I would love to photograph, so I, too, am jealous of you.

I love the expression on this little guy's face! My only critique is that the background seems a little busy with all the branches. I think a little more of the sky would've set this off a little better. Good job though!

runnerboy49 In reply to DecemberGirl [2006-03-17 01:44:09 +0000 UTC]

it was in a tree, too much sky and it looks contrived, the branches show its habitat, thats allso why I used an aperature that would give me enough DOF to get front to back detail on the squirrel, but throw the branches out of focus. also with wildlife photography you work with what the animal gives you, you don't have the luxury of positioning them how you want them to be.

Yeah, that's true. I know how it can be to try and shoot wildlife.

very tricky, I'm in the process of saving up to get a 300mm f/2.8 for sports photography, although I'm thinking of seeing if I can come up with the extra $3000 to get the 400mm f/2.8 so I can have a bit more reach for wildlife. Even though I know to shoot alot of wildlife, especially birds you need a 600mm f/4. One day.

Are you in college? Majoring in photography? I don't have that kind of money to spend on equipment. Anyway, I'm still pretty much a novice.

runnerboy49 In reply to DecemberGirl [2006-03-17 01:59:02 +0000 UTC]

Nope I'm not in college anymore, and nope I didn't major in photography, I've never taken photography classes. I never said I had the money for it either, but I sell photographs, and I do freelance sports photography for newspapers, so its a necessity. the thing to remember is your camera means nothing, its the glass that you shoot with that matters.

This is so great! Besides the squirrel appearing as if its going to jump out of the screen and attack you at any given moment...its perfect! No I'm joking ^^ It has awesome focus btw. instantly

Thank you and thanks for the . He did do his little challenge by stomping down the trunk of the tree, only getting as close as was comfortable though. I was bigger than him after all.

adorable! really awesome focus... did it stay still for a really long time, or are you just really good with focusing? haha...

runnerboy49 In reply to cicychan [2006-01-30 04:04:52 +0000 UTC]

it didn't stay like that for long, i whistled to get its attention it looked for a split second and turned away. yeah i'm fast at focusing, and a fast shutter speed helped.

I like this shot alot because no only is it an awesome shot of the squirrel, but theres so much detail to look at that you can even see the little claw marks from him twirling all over the place.

you did well, this is an amazing shot!

thank you very much, I guess I just have a way of putting their fears to rest. I'm surprised he didn't run away, the closest he was to me was about 3 or 4 feet from the end of the lens.

I swear I fucking hate squirrels. They throw things at you and are generally annoying. This is a great shot but all I can think about is shooting the subject.
LOL, making noises to get it's attention? What noise finally startled it like that? Try a small whistle one day, that might work.
