I'm trying to improve my action shots. This is the first one of many I'll be putting up here I'm sure.This was at a high school Cross Country meet, a 5k. About half-way through the race there is this huge hill, and to call it a royal pain in the ass would be an understatement. Try a pain in the ass, quads, calves, neck, arms, and abs. This hill takes it all out of you, but by the end of it, you know who's got guts.

I was just about to say don't cut off your subject, but I noticed someone else beat me to it. I do really love the negative space in this photo, though.
And every summer I run a 5k that has this giant hill at the end of it, so I totally understand.

Did you race?
Honestly there is nothing wrong with this shot, the subject has motion, the background is clean and it tells the story you mentioned.
If i can say my personal advice is to never cut your subject off though, cause you can always crop, but if you can never bring (his leg) back.

Of course! Did not look as good as this guy though, he was motoring.
I know what you mean, I really wish I would have snapped just a moment later to get the whole shot, but like I said, this was really my first attempt at action shots. Timing needs work x^P.
