"Stormlight, stop wasting your herbs."Leaffire rasped from where she lay besides her mate, Crowflight.

"B-but you can't die! Not yet! I can cure your greencough! Jayfeather and I can!" Stormlight protested, her blue eyes swelling with tears.

Crowflight smiled weakly at his daughter as he reached a paw to touch her cheek. "Oh, Stormlight. Our time on earth is done...our reward has been given...it is time for us to go back..."

"Go back...?"Speedheart croaked, his voice horse from trying to keep from crying. "I-it's too early...you can still serve the Clan for many moons before you become elders!"

Flickerflame nodded, tears already running down her face. "P-please...don't go..."She stepped forward and layed down, pressing her nose into her mother's fur. Speedheart crouched at his father's side, resting his head on Crowflight's shoulder.

"We must...don't fear...we will see you again when you join StarClan yourselves..."Leaffire whispered, her eyes closing.

Crowflight's blue eyes were already shut, but he mewed. A quiet mew but still able to be heard. "Do not think of death as something that separates...but rather something that brings together...good-bye, my kits. We love you..."

"And always will..."Leaffire murmured. The two dying cats twined tails and then, they were gone.

The dark gray tom laying at the pool's edge opened his eyes to find himself sorrounded by four starry spirits. The brown tabby beside him was getting to her paws, and so did her mate.

"Welcome back."The fiery tom known as Firestar smiled kindly.

The gray tom looked around at the other cats beside the grand leader. There was a sandy she-cat standing beside Firestar. His mate, Sandstorm. The tom's mouth went dry as he recognized the two other cats beside the orange cat. One a silver tabby, the other a black she-cat.Before he could say anything, though, his mate spoke up.

"Who will we be now, Firestar?"

"You were always the souls of Leafpool and Crowfeather, just inside two different bodies." Firestar explained.

"Crowfeather..."The black she-cat whispered. She took a step forward and layed her head against his chest. "We can be together again..." Crowfeather could hear that she was trying to convince herself as much as him.

Leafpool was being groomed by her mother and father. Sandstorm was purring uncontrollably. The leader and his mate shared words with their daughter before they turned back to Crowfeather.

"You must choose a mate, Crowfeather."Firestar mewed.

"Those who are mates on earth get to be together in StarClan, isn't that true, Firestar?"Crowfeather asked.

Firestar nodded. Crowfeather met Nightcloud's gaze. The black she-cat's amber eyes shone with such happiness that Crowfeather felt cold-hearted when he mewed.

"Nightcloud, you are a great cat...but not the one I'm destined to be with...I'm sorry..."

Nightcloud pulled back, cleary hurt. Anger came of her in waves as she stalked away.

Feathertail came up to Crowfeather and twined her tail with his. "I have waited for you for two lifetimes, Crowfeather. I love you."

"I love you, too,Feathertail...but I cannot choose you as my mate."Crowfeather replied and gently slipped his tail from the silver tabby's.

"I...I understand..."The RiverClan she-cat murmured and stepped back, her head bowed.

Crowfeather turned to face Leafpool. Sandstorm and Firestar dipped their heads and Crowfeather thought he saw them smiling, but couldn't be sure because they both faded away, along with Feathertail. Crowfeather stepped closer to Leafpool and rested his chin on her head, twining his tail with hers.

"You said no to both of them..."Leafpool whispered. "Are you sure...are you sure that's what you want?"

"You're the only one I really want."Crowfeather answered. "I returned to the earth with you, to live again, to have another chance. I was your mate, even after all the challenges we faced. I'm not changing that. I can't put into words what you mean to me...there's no way I can try...Leafpool, I...I love you. You brought me back after Feathertail died...you taught me that I could trust and love, that I didn't have to be alone..."

"Crowfeather..."Leafpool pressed her muzzle into the fur on his shoulder. "I did nothing compared to what Feathertail and Nightcloud did...Feathertail saved your life, and Nightcloud helped you gain the trust of your Clanmates again...but that wouldn't have been neccessary if it wasn't for me...they're a million times better than I am...they could make you a million times happier..."Crowfeather could tell she was sobbing by the feeling of warm tears on his pelt.

"And they could never in a million moons be you..."Crowfeather licked Leafpool's ears. The brown tabby began to purr and Crowfeather did so too. They could have been there for a few heartbeats or for a few moons. But they'd be together forever.
