Description Overcome w/ doubt w/ what I'm working on right now + inspired by , I wanted to make an influence map. ouo I've made a few in scraps for specific projects, but wanted to make a more general one. From left to right, top to bottom (-ish):

1. Oddities
Foreign or not so much, human or not so much. I love strange objects, but I don't really collect them unless I can wear them in some way, haha. I just don't like a ton of clutter. Only a bit. \ovo/

2. The Garden Twins
Another thing on music is coming later on, but I love the creative energy they have together. Really refreshing, different, and genuine. They make these sort of surreal videos among other things that you can find typically on their Youtube Channel called Vada Vada. One of my favourites might be the one called "Abilities" or maybe "VADA VADA- TWO" Also, their music video for Egg was so good, dude. (Eliza Mandelup, who directed that last video, also did a short, quite touching documentary on them called Twin Heads which you can find here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dsWcQD… )

3. The Nuremberg Chronicle
Odd German biblical paraphrase from the Medieval times, if I'm not mistaken.

4. Religious imagery
Of any kind, really, but I particularly like looking at Catholic/Christian symbols. That kind of art to me is fascinating even though I'm not even particularly religious. I still wear rosaries and crucifixes sometimes, though, because I grew up around those kinds of symbols and to me they represent love and devotion to existence, life, experience, sensation, etc. but I digRESS LET'S KEep moving.

5. Raised by Wolves, by Jim Goldberg
An amazing photography project from '85 - '95 about the homeless youth community in California. It's journalistic, but exhibited by various means as a sort of narrative and it always makes me just stop in my tracks for a time. I feel like it was really formative in my view of the world + sense of empathy. Somebody stop me because I could go on forever, good grief. Anyway, I bought the book last year after getting my first paycheque from my first real job. It's what I grab when the fire alarm goes off, let me tell you.

6. Gabe, by Nick Haymes
Done from '07 - '11 concentrating on one subject by the name of Gabe Nevins. It's really beautifully done + a (platonically) intimate work of love, dedication, sadness, and mental health, to a certain degree. I actually wrote about this book + Raised by Wolves for an ISP earlier this year that I posted on my Wordpress: milkandperoxide.wordpress.com&… it's pretty boring, though. uvo )

7. 80s goth
As represented here by Joshua Hayward of The Horrors. Style + music icon. uvu

8. Various musical movements + associated imagery
In particular punk, glam rock and the post-punk revival of the mid-late 00s.

9. Marwane Pallas's photography style
Kind of goes w/ religious imagery in some instances. I haven't seen anything similar, really!

10. Music
I'm not going to go too much into this because that's a whole other thing, but SOME of the most formative musicians/bands in my life are The Horrors, Amy Winehouse, Pete Doherty (+ the Libertines, Babyshambles), Julian Casablancas (+ the Strokes, + the Voidz), Lindsey Way, My Chemical Romance...

11. The Voynich Manuscript
Mysterious and strange illustrated book written ages ago in what is probably a non-language.

12. Frida Kahlo
I adore her and her work, oh my god. I love how, purely through need of self-expression, she moved beyond the traditional way of representing the realistic physical world and made a name for herself. Absolutely lovely + powerfully expressive. <3 She's also incredibly interesting as a person and there's an excellent documentary about her: www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4gkhU… ;

13. Jean-Michel Basquiat
God bless. I went to see his exhibition in Toronto last year on my birthday. This piece is called Six Crimee and it's even more impressive in person in no small part because of its actual size and colour. (I god damn love documentaries, it's embarrassing. www.youtube.com/watch?v=GTbykf… )

14. Victorian Bohemianism
As represented by Isadora Duncan, magical dancer. uvu\

15. Human interaction + conversation
I love talking to people, even if I'm not particularly gifted with the ability to efficiently and coherently describe things through words (as has been exemplified in this post thus far. uvu).  I'd be foolishly overlooking a major part of what influences me if I didn't include my friend crêpe / , who is a fabulous person + creative spirit. <3

16. Other people + stories
I know I seem like the most boring person in the world already, but I love hearing stories and the trajectories of humans and family as well. This also enters into music and the artists, musicians, photography projects I mentioned earlier, etc. That picture is of my great grandmother + great grandfather (who is still alive and one of my favourite people ever) probably shortly after the second World War, if I had to guess.

17. Outsider Art
Stuff done outside of cultural influence, sometimes - especially in the past - done by people with mental illnesses/disorders. A beautiful and therapeutic way to express oneself. The painting/collage is Kiyoshi Yamashita's, who was often referred to as the Japanese Van Gogh.

18. The Goth Detectives (Russell Brand + Noel Fielding)
My favourites alone and together. This kind of goes with stories AS WELL, but I just get all happy and serene and captivated immediately whenever I hear/see their work, or even if they're just talking in interviews or the Big Fat Quiz or whatever. Ah, it's ever such a laugh. uvo

19. Control (2007)
A movie about also one of my favourite bands, Joy Division. More specifically about Ian Curtis, one of my favourite poets/lyricists. It looks amazing + Anton Corbijn is involved, which is always cool. (It's even on Youtube! www.youtube.com/watch?v=r1dumW… )

That's it for now, I guess. Meme (am I using that right?) by x

Always interesting to see what inspire other artist!

The other people's story is  interesting! I like hearing my friends story (especially those who claim to have paranormal ability), my life s very dull compared to them.

Maybe I'll give it a shot too

You totally should! I would love to see yours. I always think seeing what inspires other people is so cool too. ouo

Haha, I feel the same way, but I doubt our own stories are as boring to other people as they are to us. uvo
