I'm in a team of chemists that check if food on the market is produced an labeled according to law and is non-toxic. The department I work in is that for non-vegetarian food, i.e. milk products and meat products mainly. We taste most of the food before we decide which groups of chemicals we want to look for. But it's not always fun. There is lots of low quality or even rotten food, too, that is brought to our lab. Furthermore, even the best sausage will stop to taste good after you have to eat it 15 times in a row with no other food inbetween.

The first 2 pictures are real ham (2 different sorts), all the others are cheaper imitations. They are often used in pizza, where they are advertised as "ham" though they are not (some products are actually only 40% meat).
