Description Honestly, the TV we have nowadays is nothing but fucking pigswill that the insects eagerly lap up. Here, how often do you see this in movies and TV:
Girl *is getting ready for a bath, hears something, disregards it, and gets half-naked/buck-ass naked. Hears another sound, and looks up stupidly.* HELLO????? *goes to investigate WHILE FUCKING NAKED, and not even with a freaking weapon* HELLO?? IS ANYONE THERE? LISTEN TO ME CALL OUT TO ANY MURDERERS/RAPISTS/MONSTERS, LIKE A COMPLETE AND TOTAL DUMB-SHIT!!!!
*Survival rate: 26%*
*Bitch gets eaten/raped/killed*

Come on, tell me you don't see that in EVERYTHING nowadays. Aaaah, but let's see how Scully handles the situation, using a scene from the episode "SQUEEZE" where the same scenario happens.
Scully: *is getting ready to take a bath, hears something. She looks up, shuts water off, and looks around WHILE STILL VERY DRESSED. Gets suspicious. GRABS A WEAPON, which luckily for her, just so happens to be her gun. She REMAINS SILENT so the murderer/monster/rapist thing DOESN'T READILY LOCATE HER.*
*Survival Rate:87%*
* Monster dude comes, and Scully engages in combat. Scully does not best him alone, but SHE LIVES WITHOUT SO MUCH AS A SCRATCH*

Props to Scully, I love that character. She's logical to the point where it's ridiculous, she's serious without it being overdone, and she's a bad-ass mother fucker with a gun and an FBI license.
What happened to TV nowadays? I mean, nowadays all it obsesses over is lust, sex, shallow relationships, some teeny-bopper "vampyres", sex, lame-ass crime scene investigators that have to show cleavage every five seconds, and more sex. I fucking HATE IT. I remember growing up with X-Files, and now, having watched it again as an adult, I've come to love and greatly appreciate it for the gem it is. I have an idea, let's have CSI agents VS Scully and Mulder, see who whoops up some serious ass. I place money on Scully.

This is so true. We are now treated to the likes of Snooki and Kim Kardashian and the like.

Scully was a rare character, combining intelligence, faith, inner strength and yet with femininity in the same package.

she did have a tendency to leave her gun on the first dresser/table she was close to when she got home
but yes, scully was smart
intellectually drop dead gorgeous as the saying went

Yeah, totally agree. Wish there were more strong females who aren' t whiny sissies with a vacuum instead of brains inside their heads.

I agree. I was lucky to be a teenager when X-Files came out, and I looked up to her at that age. Now the women on TV have to be "strong," which often overrides just being a normal human being. Scully was vulnerable, smart, intuitive, and compassionate, but also very real. I wish there were more Scullys on TV!

Totally agree with you on some points - like i love how her character was never over-sexualized or exploited. but honestly, the main characters of long-running tv series are never the ones that get killed naked in the bathroom. maybe i dont watch enough tv

It's nice to know i'm not the only one facepalming so hard my hand goes through my head as I watch the clueless females practically advertise "I'm here, defensless and probably tasty, come eat me!" I've actually sworn at my TV a few times because they can be so dumb, all though saying that it's normally the writers fault for making them do something so blatently illogical and stupid. *sigh* I miss the old days (granted i'm only eighteen but I grew up watching the older stuff ;D)

p.s Scully = win.

Yay for Scully as paradigma of the independent survivor woman of late XX century!
I agree with you, Ryuyasha-Mercury, about the fact that most of the nowadays series have bad plots. Mulder and Scully were really badass in those times. And, by the way, they were one of the TV couples that really settled the theme "Non-Solved-Sexual-Tension". Apart from Bruce Willis and Cybill Shepherd in "Moonlighting", from 80Β΄s (or so they say in many places)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RustNSplinters In reply to Olaunis [2012-01-04 02:05:31 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the whole X-Files series really contained a lot of elements we don't see even in most movies on the big screens. I really like how the romance element was slow-going, subtle and not a huge focus in the show. Nowadays, romance is like, 50+% in EVERYTHING we see, but in X-Files, it was maybe 3% of the focus. The rest was for plot and characters. Hopefully, another gem like that will pop up again...though I don't have my hopes up.

And I've never seen "Moonlighting" What's that one about?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Olaunis In reply to RustNSplinters [2012-01-08 20:08:20 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I agree. Now the series fous so much in the romantic developement of the relations. As if they thought that in real life, that tension cannot exist. When it ACTUALLY happens... a lot.

Moonlightning was a TV show that was aired in United States and in my country (Spain) during the 80Β΄s (donΒ΄t know if it was also aired in other countries or when). The main characters were Cybill Sheppard and Bruce Willis, that formed a pair of private detectives. Yeah, Bruce Willis played the second half of a pseudo-romantic duo in a series with almost no violence nor guns nor explosions... hehehehe. You can search for fragments of the chapters in Youtube.

RustNSplinters In reply to Olaunis [2012-01-09 19:53:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's sad, a lot of these TV shows have plots that could have potential, but then they cheapen it by focusing entirely too much on relationships and with badly done character development.

Ooooh, I might have to definately go check that one out, might have it for cheap at my local second-hand video shop! Let's hope!

Hell. Yes. Well said, I completely agree. I'll always love Agent Scully for her badassery and the fact that she kicks ass while only being 5'2 or 5'3 proving you don't have to be the tall, scrawny whimps to be bad ass and beautiful.

I'd say the one character I can think from a nowdays show that even remotely comes close on the 'kick ass girls' radar is Agent Ziva David from NCIS.

I love Scully, she is my TV heroine and you know she did not need to get naked, have sex either to prove she was a woman. Oh no, she was always well dressed, refused to sleep with Mulder and even when it was thought she did (she got pregnant after all) it is not clear if she did or it was I.F. after all. Now even the so called bad ass woman has to start out by sleeping with someone. Not Scully, she could run in heals with no problem after all!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

RustNSplinters In reply to Raiderhater1013 [2011-07-28 18:43:54 +0000 UTC]

Scully is a good role model for all women for those exact reasons you've listed! Now all our "role models" weigh less than a slice of bread, and sleep with everything with a dick. Sad...

I grew up with this show, too and I find all these TV girls who need help getting their shoes tied very boring. You have a point there.

Yeah, it's like all the focus today is on the MALE agents, and the female agents are just stupid. At least Mulder was intelligent and reletively able to handle himself, and Scully was the voice of reason and logic. Not to mention she was the bitch with the gun, and bitches with guns call the shots

Hear, hear. I was telling friends last week that Scully was the last correct image of a female FBI agent on TV.
Now we get what Brigitte Jones called 'american stick insects' running around in tank tops and tight jeans waving FBI ID's. BS! A girl with arms one inch in diameter is gonna handcuff ME? Think again. Well played.

Yeah, these "FBI" agents wouldn't last a day at the academy...hmmm, perhaps I ought to make a comic of Scully VS agents from other FBI and CSI shows, as unfair as that fight may be! XD
Thank you very much for the comment!
