Description
I haven't posted on here for a while now.Hopefully I'll be posting more finished pieces this year, but for now here's a sketch.
You can follow me on www.instagram.com/mitchell_rus… , I'm more active there.
Done in Krita. I have a bad habit of detailing the face too early on, so I focused more on the big picture (gesture, form, composition and mood).
Thnks for looking!

I love this, it's so simple and that's what makes is beautiful! The lines and shading along with the pose is very graceful

Thank you very much! I was really going for simple by forcing myself to use a bristle brush at a set size for the lines plus a bristle smear for the shading, avoiding details.

I don't know exactly why , for the soft atmosphere or the cleanest of the drawing but i love it , it is precious

Gorgeous! I've always favored black and white pieces. They tell a story and leaves room for imagination.

You're welcome. When I see this piece, I think of the time of day, her location, and what could she be thinking. I think all art should do this, but black and white, in my opinion, leaves more room because it's the basis of stillness in motion, a captured moment. Without the color, it makes the viewer question it more because there is no set tone. What were you thinking of when you drew this, may I ask?

It began as a technical exercise of self restraint, limiting myself of using only a bristle brush at a set size for the lines and a bristle smear brush for shading, taking careful consideration of my edges while doing so. I drew some gesture lines around her which made me think of water (it's been raining a lot here recently, which I love) when I drew the gesture lines for the hands it kind of came together, because she was interacting with her environment. I added some water drops for visual interest and thought of the title for the piece. There were some leaves at the right, but I didn't want the drawing to be too symmetrically balanced so I removed them. The image felt like it was missing something however.. while looking at her hand the thought of a dragonfly came in my head. There's actually an ever so slight colour wash that I added as a finishing touch , which strengthens the atmosphere I think, hinting at twilight.

That sounds like a great exercise to practice. I feel that the color wash does give it strength. It's a great piece. You've given some food for thought, thank you.

Thank you! The hands were tricky, but I'm glad I spend some extra time on them.
