I love the tonality of this pic! The pose, the lighting, it's all great!
However, his face is just a tad soft. Also, for most accute sharpness, you may want to try f/5.6. Still, there's a fine line between techniques and it's hard to achieve perfection. A longer lens would help too. 45mm is a bare minimum. I use 50mm for groups only. For single persons, I use at least 85mm.
Sorry about the technical bit there! I really like what you've done! Thank you for uploading it and sharing!

Thanks for your comments! I always want to learn
The face looks soft in this pic, well, I'm blaming the size, and the slight grain I added to the picture. I also didnt throw an unsharp on it either. With the lens I was using (the 24-120 nikkor f 3.5-5.6) 5.6 would have made it softer, not sharper. As is, the f8 still put the hands and the camera slightly out of focus.
The reason of the 45mm instead of 80mm that would usually be used, because its a digital body, it is multiplied by 1.5, makes it about 70 or so, which is a bit better.
The best part of the picture? The camera on his lap is actually his, the one that he uses the most.

As I said, I really like this picture! I love old cameras too! Yashica rangefinders are cool! I almost always bring along my Ricoh 500GX, and that's my favourite everyday camera.
As for 5.6/8, even if you get more depth of field by stopping down, you also get a hair more refraction, which actually makes it less sharp in the in-focus areas. Weird, huh? Also, I don't know about the 24-120 Nikkor, but in general, zoom lenses are quite a bit softer than prime lenses, and as a 50mm lens is fairly cheap (~85 on APS), I recommend buying one, or borrowing one to see the difference. I bought one and was completely shocked by the difference! (I use canon 5D, though, so I bought the cheapest lens they ever made, wich is the 50 1.8 for group shots, and I've also gotten the 85mm for one person portraits.)
I have to say, I'm not trying to rain on your parade here... I only comment on pictures I really, really like!
