Description Book Safes Made Using This Tutorial:
[link] - PirateLotuse-Stock

Welcome to my first tutorial!
This was originally made for the Get Crafting Tutorial Contest here: [link]

Today we'll be learning how to make one of those nifty "book safes" to hide all of our secret stuff in.
I've tried to make it in as little steps as possible while still making it understandable.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask in the comments and I'll do my best to help you out.

If you use this tutorial to make a book safe, be sure to post a link to it in the comments below.
I'd love to see how they turn out and how people's creativity works with book safes.

Thanks!

Thats a really awesome idea! I think, for the people worried about ruining good books, check out a secondhand bookshop for some of them readers digest 4 stories in one condensed books. Often thick and cheap as chips Ive picked a few up from 3-6 bucks

I never even thought of doing this before. But now I really want to because that would be REALLY cool to have this on my bookshelf.

... now only to gather up the courage to destroy a book and to find one worth destroying.

Llyzabeth [2011-05-22 07:55:20 +0000 UTC]

Nice!! I've made one of these, but I glued the pages AFTER I cut them, and it didn't work very well at all. Plus the suggestion about drilling holes for the corners? Genius. I'm totally gonna try this one.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RuthlessDreams In reply to Llyzabeth [2011-05-22 08:32:49 +0000 UTC]

Lmao. Glad I could help.
Gluing the pages after you cut them wouldn't be the easiest way. Lol.
Now, if you don't want to glue the outside pages to have a more 'realistic' look [i.e. you'll be able to thumb through the pages] then you'll need to cut your compartment without gluing your pages at all.
The best way to do this is to do two things:
01. Put something underneath the front part of your book to help support the weight. This will help keep the pages that your compartment will be cut into level and even.
02. Wrap rubber bands around the pages that your compartment will be in. This will also help keep the pages level and even.
Ideally, you could use clamps to do this so you won't have so much to worry about, but who honestly has a couple of clamps thrown about their house? Lol.
Which ever way you do it, good luck. And be sure to share your finished product with us.
