Hello Jason !
Very nice to meet you ! Put some stuff in your gallery !
And, I hope you will not regret it , but I certainly will hit you for more info !!
Measurements of course are important. I probably am doing a lot wrong.
And finding the pics, detective work, is also tough !! I look in movies but the quality is low. Bluray will help in that requisite .
Thaaaaanks a lot !!! And much more if I can use you eyes for some troubleshooting ??

ive been sculpting likenesses for a few years for wax museums, Disney, Universal studios etc. hit me up if you have questions, i could give you some pointers and tricks that i use. measurement is a BIG one..and finding ref. photos that are all with in 6 months of each other help...it,s best to use blue ray and pause films or print screen..that will help a bit.

She was so adorable in that movie! It's still one of my favorite movies of all time, because it was so visually interesting and had such oddball humor in it. It wasn't mean or gory or insulting, just a fun sci-fi flick to enjoy and feel good about.

Amazing work. Are you just sculpting her head or are you making an entire figure?

verrrry nicely done! - I can't even imagine where you start with something like this... I'm pleased enough on the rare occasions when I can draw a realistic likeness of someone.. but getting that likeness in all dimensions - THAT's impressive! roughly how big is your head sculpt?
๐: 0 โฉ: 1
rvbhal In reply to KatCardy [2010-09-27 14:06:21 +0000 UTC]
Thanks a lot !! It is in 1/5 scale . Around 4 cm high .

KatCardy In reply to rvbhal [2010-09-27 14:29:35 +0000 UTC]
wow! that's even more impressive! i figured it must have been bigger than that! I hope one day I can sculpt a likeness that good at such a size!

rvbhal In reply to KatCardy [2010-09-28 23:26:57 +0000 UTC]
Yes the size is eye stressing .... live size would be easier ...

I had a first (and only attempt) at sculpting a human head from life a few years back, which was life-size, and that was cripplingly difficult.. so I can't even begin to imagine how tricky and fiddly it is working at this size!!
Mind you, from memory the only tools I used were my hands.. so I guess when you're sculpting that small you just find smaller finger-tips! lol [link]

Tools , basically (90%) spatula 7 Dental. Many others as well but only for details .
There is a great sculptor , Williamson, he uses also very much just his fingers . He is a master in likeness .

I have a set of wax-sculpting tools which seem to be ok, but the best tool I've used was one of ~rapstertee 's dental ones... I'll have to see if I can get one like that. :]
Cheers for the info on Williamson - I'll have to look him up :]

I think I found him! there are quite a few sculptors called Williamson so it took a little searching yesterday, but I finally found this one guy who had amazing looking likenesses, and he had a DVD on his site too so I'm guessing it's the same guy you're thinking of;
[link]
- is that him? the DVD looks great! A little out of my budget right now though
