Description
The European project was an abject failure. Torn from within and smashed from without, the European Union died in fire and blood, a victim of its naive idealism and cynical hypocrisy. After a mere decade, Europe went from the richest continent on Earth, to a blasted, impoverished, diseased hellscape. But a tiny sliver of the old order remained, clinging for dear life as the ruins of the Low Countries drowned beneath the rising seas or burned in the chaos of the Gene Wars. The Benelux Union is a nation of contradictions. It clings on to the idea of peace through unity and democracy, but its own unity is maintained only by an iron fist. It lauds itself as a beacon of tolerance, yet views the rest of mankind with contempt. It says it is the way of the future, yet its ideas are stuck firmly in the 21st century.ΒRelated content

Reminds me of Puritan New England. "Shining city upon a hill", and all that.
