Description
The core of the Galactic Empire is the most densely-populated region in the galaxy. The historic home of mankind, the region has been devastated by several galaxy-spanning wars, but it remains the most important region in the galaxy. This is a map of one region of the Galactic Empire for my Space Cadet universe. I am working on an entire galactic map, but this portion is more or less complete.

for anyone interested, this is the full map. Note, it is no longer canon, and rvbomally is probably going to start from scratch for the final map.

Do you have an agenda for upcoming empires and factions in this universe?
if so, can you describe a few of them briefly?

It's always changing, just keep abreast of the Space Cadet gallery.

I assume that was some pet project of an emperor which went wrong?

How big is Space Cadet Imperial Space compared to Star Wars Imperial Space? Also is it the biggest of all the territories, or do the Federation match it?

The Space Cadet Empire is a bit larger than the Star Wars Empire system-wise, but "territorially" is smaller. The Federation does match it.

I figure in Space Cadet the national powers make use of building 'tall' since space isn't really 2d, whereas the Star Wars galactic governments just focus on going as wide as possible.

It's more that they don't skip as many systems, are more willing to terraform, and just pave over any alien ecosystems they find.

So you'd say systems/planets are much more developed here than in Star Wars? Also are the designations New Core, Old Core etc Galaxy-wide or just for the Imperial territories?

RvBOMally In reply to Zomg420 [2015-09-01 05:31:25 +0000 UTC]
More developed, and there are more undeveloped systems. The astrographic designations are galaxy-wide, and were named during earlier eras of human history. Note how the "Expansion Region" is not on the other side of the galaxy; this is because this name was adopted during the earliest stages of human expansion.

For some reason, the various anomalies are what I'm most interested in reading about.
Nice map, I'm excited to see the full one!

There's no particular in-universe connection to Russia, but they are meant to sound Russian.

Are their more systems that are off map due to this only being a the core of the Third Empire of Man?

Pretty.
I have a bit of a hard time orienting myself; which way is corewards and which way is rimwards? How many ly are the height and width of the map? (I wouldn't mind a distance ... thingy. You know. One of those boxes where it says, like, "10 km" or whatever. I dunno what they're called.) And how far Galactic North and Galactic South does the human-occupied zone stretch?

Honestly, most of those questions are better answered by posting the full map. I may add some distances, but I don't want to clutter the map too much. As for human-occupied zones...they pretty much own the entire galaxy.

The galaxy is big, you know. There's gotta be a whole lotta monkeys in this future of yours. I'm glad you seem to manage to convey that sense of scale, though, as opposed to certain other popular space-based media franchises I could mention.
Another question: Which real-world star system corresponds to Dondrukovskrad?
Also, what's the story behind Proserpina? From what I can see, it's the only place with a name from ... wait ... Proserpina ... Roman Persephone .... PERSEPH- oh okay then.

There is no real world system that corresponds to Dondrukovskrad. The only real system here is Sol.

Is there a particular kind of naming convention for Imperial Systems/Worlds or did you use name generators? They seem vaguely Russian in origin.

They're intentionally Russian-sounding, because that's what Middle Standard Imperial sounds like.
