Description I was inspired by bits and pieces of QuantumBranching's take on the setting: [link] , but I tried to keep it as different as possible.

Don't really have much of a writeup for this, but some notes:

- The Soviets entered the war in Japan much earlier, seeing as the war in Europe was wrapped up earlier. Managed to get all of Korea through combat and Hokkaido in the peace agreement.

- The US tried to create a new generation of Basterds after the end of the war and used them against Castro and in Vietnam. The rest of the world started copying them, and the proxy wars ITTL are much bloodier.

- Soviet-American relations are much tenser. A nuclear war could happen any day now....

shining path were a maoist movement, they considered the USSR "too soft" and in 1984 they just couldn't have taken over already since they were still working on the mountains. but who knows, since this USSR is different...oh i just saw cuba there, now there are very little influences en the area for that to happen.

just sayin' ...i recognize that is interensting to have a red spot on south america since cuba is blue, but the fact is that even the military government that partly caused the appearance of "sendero" was kinda supported by the USSR, a stronger soviet union would have made the peru-chile situation (pinochet was extremely blue) kinda like the vietnam or the koreas in the 70's, and it would have needed another squad of bastards, making peru another blue spot already, but you could say that at the moment signed on the map. sendero could be fighting against the blue government, but they wouldn't be in charge of the country.

This isn't OTL's Shining Path, and the reason they are successful ITTL is that the Soviet version of the Basterds helped them into power as a counterweight to junta-led Chile.

Still surprising that a certain Libyan general still has an army of fake amazons.

This is a Tarantino universe. Eccentric characters and women in implausible combat-related situations is the rule, not the exception.

Re 12, maybe they could prevent him from falling by killing the right people at the right time, but once he's forced into exile the anti-Shah coalition is too broad-based to overthrow just by covert methods: there isn't a powerful pro-Shah faction waiting in the wings to take power, 1979 isn't 1953. (It would be ironic if the Bastards managed to kill enough of the Khomeiniites to allow the left-wing radicals to seize power, or, given US prejudices, killed enough leftists to make the Ayatollah's takeover smoother than OTL and give rise to the wide perception that the rule of the Ayatollah's was the US's fault).

The Iranian "revolt" isn't exactly OTL's. The Islamists and the leftists were more hostile to one another and the situation practically broke down into open warfare, aided by both the Basterds and their Soviet counterparts stirring the pot by intentionally targeting moderates on the "other side," whoever that may be at the moment. The military was also more firmly on the Shah's side, so they did the heavy lifting in the restoration.
