Description
READ FIRST: THIS ANIMATION WAS MADE USING MACROMEDIA FLASHTHE MUSIC WAS DONE IN FRUITYLOOPS
THANK YOU.
Just to show you all that I AM working on Dendyn Futures.
Firstly, I'd like to make it known that Dendyn Futures runs at 30fps, unlike Dendyn Dynasties which ran at 25. However, since it's going to be a bit longer than Dynasties, most of the fbf is only going to be animated on every second frame, an anime standard. This means less frames I have to colour and therefore less time taken, and the smoothness still takes only a minimal hit. Maybe after it's on its way to completion, I will go back and fill out some of the blank frames.
The characters are actually a lot harder to draw than in Dynasties, since I'm not omitting any details this time, especially on the Mechs.
You also get to hear a bit of the Dendyn Futures theme, although I won't be allowing that for download until I've done sufficiently more on this animation.
So yeah, this part is mostly showcasing Cyrus and his quicktoe ability as well as the Vulpine Star Mech. I never really got around to animating Rygel's quicktoe on the last Dendyn animation, so Cyrus fills that up nicely here.
Not much of it is coloured yet, sorry about that. It's the most tedious job of the animation process, lol. XB
The Dendyn series and all related material is (c) Ryanide. Do not distribute or use without my permission.
The animation style is inspired from Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann this time. It's really given me a great idea on how to do impact and recoil motions.

One of my favorites^^
This is probably one of the smoothest animations I've seen in a long time, and I also like how you co-ordinated the music with the character actions. I also agree with Yen-Ta that it would be nice to see some more material on the mechs as they are a good story idea and have the potential to be amazing.

I really like the music for this. It fits perfect.
It's amazing how you heard this music in your dream, and then composed it perfectly when awake. That's some real talent.

Not for this one though. That was for two heroes. This tune was made up off the top of my head.

You should go into game designing... Your characters would look cooler (and not to mention cuter) than usual if they were fighting in a video game or an arcade game ^^

I love when he kicks that person! I'm currently working on a kicking animation myself. I've faved a small battle scene of your's once before; this one is fantastic.
I think though it all feels a little *too* rushed once he gets into the mech. There should be a sense of suspense instead of running it all in together so quickly. At least, I'd not want it all there so fast.
Personally, I quite like black and white, but your skills simply beg for your work to be coloured ! I like your colouring. It's not hard, but achieves the desired visual effect.
You're an inspiration. I'll keep my eyes on you some more throughout my National Diploma course in College If you don't mind, may I have some tips on my own animations? I'm only getting started and would love to know what an experienced animator thinks as I get so few visits XDDD

Well, Cyrus definetly has loads of style. Maybe I am a bit biased... The "light to no armor, very fast and with a sword-thing" type has always been one of my favorites.
The mechs are very cool too, and you managed to make them look fully mobile, which is a big plus. Most artists have trouble with mechs because the chunks of metal seem immovable. (I know I do)
The animation seems a bit shaky at some points, but it's just a WIP. Those things are bound to happen in the early stages. I know you can fix it later.
I would nitpick a bit, but my experiaence with animating borders on nothing, so I can't comment on the little details.
I have one question though: You said that this runs at 30 fps, and that you animated every second frame. Why not have it at 15 fps and animating all frames then? That would reduce the file size and have to effect on the animation quality, right?

Ryanide In reply to HeadShot-X [2007-09-13 00:53:18 +0000 UTC]
You are right: save for certain smoother points, the animation will run on 15fps outside of the tweening and special effects and camera movement, which will all be at 30. The advantage is that I can cut down on time it takes to complete the animation and still have room to go back and smooth it out if need be.

HeadShot-X In reply to Ryanide [2007-09-13 10:25:45 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the smoother points... The reason you didn't just leave it at 15 fps was probably because of the tweens. It's no problem for the frame by frame parts, but in Flash's 12 fps default the tweens look like the object is teleporting lots of times instead of actually moving, and I doubt 3 extra fps would change that.
Things I forgot to put in the first post:
I love that scrolling background in the beginning. It's a great way to start, and the beginning of the music fits there awesomely. It changes with the backbround.
The change from past to future is relatively easy. You had the two backgrounds already drawn. Past with 100% alpha and Future with 0% alpha. Then you used a tween to slowly change their alpha channels, amirite?
The part that I have no idea how it was done is the blur on the bakground when Cyrus appears.
It's an handy technique to know when we want to shift the focus from the background to the character.
Although that trick is probably way out of my league right now, I would like to know how you did it, so that when I get more skilled with Flash I already have that knowledge.
I enjoyed seeing that the animation is almost flawlessly synchronized with the music. I took a particular liking for that part with Cyrus surrounded by all the robots and the camera zooming out at the sound of the music.
The recoil animation when the Vulpine Star is shot by the White Ash is well done. It's very short, so there might be some imperfection on one frame I could find if I went through every frame of it, but animation isn't meant to be viewed like that. It's the quality of the conjunction of all the frames that counts, not the quality of each frame.
One of the things I like the most with Dendyn is that resemblance to RPGs, with the damage numbers, skill names and status conditions appearing on screen. Pretty original and awesome!
P.S. - Consider yourself watched. Your works have inspired me some times, and as such you are more than deserving it.
