Description
A character from Tech Sector, which is in the process of being changed from a futuristic ninja story to a futuristic psychological horror/ninja story.Naomi is one of the "Lost" children who disappeared when holes in the ghost world began appearing in Kohaku city. It is said that six youths simply vanished, only to be seen again later in dreams and delusions of a nightmarish nature. With the disappearance of these six, an increase in unexplainable murders was apparent. The Kohaku defense force (Holly's superiors) re-studied the ancient scrolls and came to the conclusion that the ghosts of these youths were returning to kill people in the living world. All of the six children were known for having some kind of illness or issue, so the spirits possessing them could have been feeding off the feelings of hatred within them to create monsters out of these youths.
After her first encounter with Sighanu, Holly is ordered to investigate some of the murder sites the next day to see if she can find any more clues. She meets a boy detective named Rhyss who appears to be working alongside her for this case. At first Holly finds it unusual that Rhyss could be a detective at his age, but upon seeing his skills, she accepts it.
The first Lost one Holly encounters is Naomi. Holly soon realizes that her skills and ninjitsu magic are no match for the supernatural powers of this menacing little girl. Instead of fighting this unstoppable force, Holly does all she can to escape the haunted butchery before she becomes another statistic. However, Rhyss insists on staying behind. It seems he knows something about Naomi that Holly doesn't.
-----------
NAOMI
Naomi used to be a simple elementary school student who lived a few yards down from Holly's lawyer office. Holly may have seen her once or twice in passing. Although she was mentally gifted, Naomi had problems with her eyes, and would frequently experience twitching or visions of things that weren't there. She was also colourblind. Her family wasn't rich enough to afford cybernetic implants for her eyes to fix this problem, so she often sat on the swings in the schoolyard, staring off into the distance and trying to correct her vision. The fact that she couldn't read books on her own made her very depressed at times, because she loved books with a passion, asking her parents and friends to read to her frequently.
When the holes in the otherealm opened up, Naomi was approached by her evil counterpart: A mirror ghost. It offered her the chance to fix her eyes. Naomi accepted, and the demon took her soul, taking her body as a host and turning her into a murderous psychological ghost being capable of releasing the dark thoughts and monsters within her own mind. Naomi's victims will find themselves hallucinating, unable to focus, and threatened by shadowy creatures that could or could not be real. Naomi herself uses a crowbar in combination with her abilities to disappear, spot teleport, walk on surfaces and project images of herself. When she appears, it is usually sudden and accompanied by a shrill screeching noise followed by voices reading text from storybooks. These voices grow louder as Naomi approaches her target. She is also invulnerable to attacks from the living.
Also, if you look towards her left, you should be able to see her Mirror hovering there. Each one of the Lost ones have a different Mirror, it doesn't necessarily look anything like their physical bodies. If a person can somehow destroy a Mirror, the spirit of the Lost one will be set free and the ghost will cease to exist. However, Mirrors exist as physical entities only in the otherealm, and the only people who can enter the otherealm directly are those who are already possessed by ghosts...hmmmm.

This was made in Photoshop and took me about four hours to do the colouring. I sketched the shading beforehand to get that gritty sort of look that's popular in survival horror games.
I was mainly inspired by the Silent Hill series, which in my opinion, is a great horror game because it's scary, but it doesn't overdo the gore. Most of the blood in SH games is on the walls or dripping from ceilings and stuff like that. It's not spurting around in a gross way like it does in Resident Evil.
Perhaps sometime in the future, I might be able to make the first survival horror game with anthro characters...would that work, I wonder? By detaching the characters from humanity, it could be a more alien experience, being more animalistic and perhaps slightly more or less frightening.
I've finally settled on a style for Tech Sector! (which is probably going to be renamed once I can think of a better title)
-----------
Tech Sector(working title) is (c) Ryanide 2006/7. Do not distribute this image.
..this doesn't need a mature filter, does it? There's only a little bit of blood on her hand.

I would love to see a furry horror game. I'm sick of all the stereotypes dominating games these days, seems like almost anything with furries is a bright, cheerful game. Of course publishers are so in love with money, that allot of great games get canned for not cooperating with up with current gaming fads. The storyline so far sounds great to me, and easy to use as a game structure.
And I haven't played Silent Hill yet, I thought it would be like a million times gorier than Resident Evil. Since I always hear people say it makes Resident Evil look like nothing. I guess its more of the psychological head games and disturbing sound and imagery that makes it more frightening.

Good point. Why don't I?
The REDWALL series by Brian Jaques are quite popular, and they have anthro characters in them and are aimed at older readers...
It's funny, because I was actually planning on writing the story of Tech Sector from the start rather than animating it. It would take me less time and all that.
But I reckon that I should save this idea and try to make a game out of it later. That would sell better than a book, and I believe that visuals are needed to fully express what Tech Sector has to offer.
Maybe I could make a graphic novel? But ugh, that would probably take even more time than doing an animation!

Beh... Nice kitty... -T_T-
-For your typical "joyful and cartoony" Style and outlook, This is impressively dark!
-I still "sense" your style in there and feels very... wow how do i describe this... Complete? To add anything else would be too much....
-If you were to continue in this direction for a bit, I think you could really create some impacting and emotionally wrenching pieces! (But I would like to see happy furry play time again soon... -^_^-)
-I might recommend a tad more blur on the objects around the frame, just to give them a sense that they are closer to you than she is... Actually that last one is just a style I got goin' in my head... That might not actually work as well in this one...
Anyway, great work as always Ryanide...

Wow, great story... I'd like to read whatever comic it is from! Excellent picture, too.
I can't see the ghost, though, on her left!
Um, and have you tried Manhunt or Doom 3? They have textures and ambiant gore, etc, lol, similar to what you speak of.

Ryanide In reply to BlackScarletLove [2007-04-25 00:56:17 +0000 UTC]
Unfortunately, I don't have any comic yet. I probably would have a hard time making it, so this is more of just an idea rather than an implemented story, really.
The ghost is pretty hard to see, it's just a shadow that looks a bit like the floating torso of a cat with a stream of black coming out it's mouth. I should have made it a bit easier to make out. Oh well.
I seriously dislike Manhunt (I hate all of Rockstar's games) and as for Doom3, well it's too much in-your-face gore and it uses crude shock tactics most of the time.
I really liked Crimson Butterfly!

cuddles manhunt and doom away from your harsh and glaring words...
and wow, that's a very descript storyline for 'just an idea'!!
Why do you hate manhunt and rockstar? And you know the one game that kept me frightened was Turok 1. That game was huge wide open spaces and a very short field of view (before the infernal fog of 90's games before they figured out perspective mapping and larger memory caches) but the unnerving thing about it is it is completely quiet and peaceful, with beautiful scenery and then some guy will run at you yelling very loudly from the fog right in front of you. A very paradoxical experience!

I hate Rockstar because they're lame and they try to be gangsta.
Manhunt was just a stupid excuse to make a murder simulator into a game, which is typical of Rockstar.
The games they make are technically good, but they always put me off with their meatheaded subject matter. >_< I can't stand that company.
Yeah, the Turok games did have a bit of a jump factor to them...you know, big dinosaurs running at you from out of nowhere...
