Description Here's the layout to inks for that poster. I started with the figure, got that all blocked in then started on the perspective grid, worked out the buildings finishing off the pencils, then I inked it. I worked on this off and on so I don't know exactly how long it took me. But it was time-consuming.

Hey, if you inked the clouds like everything else, how'd you color their lines later?

*faves* hey, did you do your backgrounds on aseperate layer, or did you muscle thru to the finish along with the figure? AND, do you have to produce this in addition to your regular grind?
(inquring minds, you know...)

RyanOttley In reply to waydre [2006-11-07 13:12:40 +0000 UTC]

I drew it all together, that's how I like to do it. It makes the original look best also. This is actually in issue 36, I drew it as a poster but we used it as a double page spread also.

i see your point! the only reason to do otherwise, is if its art directed to DEATH!...and then, you want as little to do with it as possible(or is that just me?).
you have the patience to crank out these beautiful bgs....your figure work seems to flow from your pencils effortlessly, better and BETTER with each page, man!
but the funny thing is, its like push ups...they ALWAYS seem hard!
cheers, (and thanks for the feedback)

The mark of a true comic artist...the time and attention to detail obviously spent on this image exemplifies its quality. A lot of people believe it's unrealistic to be able to draw images like this themselves, by hand, when all it takes is patience.

This is thoroughly impressive, and it is great of you to post the process of the image along with the final result. This is more useful and inspirational than the completed product, and thus the one I'm giving a to.

COOL! Thanks for showing us this WIP. I'm glad that you draw it all on one piece. (In reference to your response from a question I asked before) I know that the original is a lrge size, but I'm still amazed that you were able to cram so much detail into that size anyway.

One more question if you don't mind. I've heard of a "perspective grid" mentioned by other people before....I think in the Wizard How-to-Draw book...what is that exactly and where can I get one?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanOttley In reply to DaleNorvell [2006-10-02 00:32:47 +0000 UTC]

A perspective grid is basically making lines over the whole panel/page in measured increments from each vanishing points, and it makes a grid. And it's really easy from that point to draw anything you want in the grid.

DaleNorvell In reply to RyanOttley [2006-10-02 04:48:46 +0000 UTC]

Oh, so it's not something that's pre-made you can use, you actually make it yourself on each drawing?

ok I think I might have misused words there. I guess it's NOT called equidistant spacing. It's something else. I suck at explaining. Everyone just come to my house and I'll show you how I did it.

When you did the perspective points were they on the page or off? And if they were off the page how big were they?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RyanOttley In reply to Plague52x [2006-09-28 17:12:07 +0000 UTC]

They were off the page but I used equidistant spacing, so I never even had to use the vanishing points.
