Description Well I don't think I've shown off any OzF5 pages yet, the writer and I are keeping most of it unseen until the book comes out this year. But I thought I'd post a couple pages to see what y'all think. Pencils/inks= Me.

loving this... lots of movement, really liking it!

I'm a storyteller... singer songwriter, I would (((love))) to talk to you about a project called, The Invisible Girl.

Jeebus, Ryan.
That is incredible work there. I'm honestly at a lose for words. It's freakishly amazing how much you grow with each post. It's like you pick up an extra 5 points of super-awesome between pieces!

I'm truly impressed. This is beautiful work.

Well, don't I feel silly.

I think i'm so used to seeing your "simplified" massive detail in Invincible... so when I see crazy mayhem detail like this I assume it's newer. *snort* You're just full of surprises!

Ya, there is alot of people that think that I am actually dumbing my self down to draw Invincible, especially after they see this OzF5 stuff, but the truth is Invincible is ALOT harder to draw than OzF5. Invincible has more anatomy that I have to show off/learn, more tech things, buildings, cars, and doing things more realistically in some areas. OzF5 does take more time to draw though, like those trees, I used white ink on them after the page was inked. I love doing that, I think it gives it a cool effect.

Aww, I don't think you dumb anything down for Invincible. It's a different book and for an artist to do it right you have to bend a little bit to fit in with the characters and the writing... that's what you do. And you do it well. I love Cory's work... but Invincible was meant for you.

The inking on this one just blows me away. I've heard of folks using white over the black but i've never seen the effect it creates until now. Or at least been aware of how it was done anyway. It is very cool. Maybe one day i'll stop being such a sissy and learn how to ink.

Tips? What exactly you wanna know? The best advice is to just practice.

well, pretty much on thin line inking. i have alot of trouble inking thin lines and always look thick to me no matter how thin the pen is.

RyanOttley In reply to SteelBunny [2005-04-14 01:19:01 +0000 UTC]

Oh, well for me the best thing to ink with is a hunt 102 pen nib. You can get some THIN nice lines with those, but they do take TONS of practice. I use that on all my characters but for background stuff I use Pigma pens and Pitt pens.
