It is dusty. Really, really dusty.
For some reason. Right.

They circled each other, silent. Skerry retreated towards the crest of the hill, drawing Val after him, away from the reeve. A bystander would have almost thought they were having a staring competition, they moved so little. Quick darting movements rippled on both sides as they locked stares.

Val finally broke and barrelled headlong into Skerry, snapping. Skerry shoved one foreclaw into Val’s chest, rotating sideways on his hind paws, while punching at Val’s face with the other. He managed to avoid getting gored by Val’s beak, but was too slow to miss getting clouted by his wings on the follow through. Val turned quickly and lunged again with his beak. Skerry twisted his face aside, making his neck scream, and made a one-handed grab for Val’s throat. Both came away with only feathers to show.

Heaving breaths, they circled each other again for a time, analyzing each other. This time Skerry moved first, going vertical. He jumped up with a pump of his wings and dropped back down at the waiting Val, fists balled. This time Val did not aim for his face though, he lunged and clamped his beak right on Skerry’s forearm. Skerry cried out and clawed desperately at Val’s face as the big Skrekrill bit down hard. That beak was going to break his arm. He finally got a good swipe across Val’s eyeridge and he let go, swearing. Skerry backed off, testing the arm. It held, for now... Val meanwhile was shaking the blood out of his eyes.

Once more, they circled each other, slowly. Skerry had to respect that beak, but Val knew Skerry was faster than him, he was just so much smaller. Skerry moved in again, this time low and to the side. He darted in and swiped at Val’s side with his claws, ducking beneath his outspread wing. He was pulled up short by a sharp tug on his tail, bringing him down on the injured arm, which collapsed under his weight with a sharp twinge. He looked back to see his tail in Val’s beak. Val grinned and bit down. Grinding pain shot up his spine as he cried out, and he knew the bones were broken. ‘Two can play that game,’ he thought viciously and reared up to grab with his good hand Val’s wing which was beating above him. Clenching down, he felt bones break at the tip of the wing. Val screeched and let go of the tail. Skerry pulled a few primaries out for good measure as Val yanked his wing away. They backed off, glaring at each other again.

The sound of wings thumped overhead as two gryphons landed behind Skerry. Spinning on three legs to dart a quick look back, he was relieved to see Syam and Parsa, both looking battered. Never the less, it was three to one now. Turning back, he was amazed to see Val had not backed off an inch. Indeed, he looked like he was about to charge again.

At that moment however Blight stooped low over all of them, causing the Grandesques to duck. He called out to Val, “The Queen has called the retreat! We leave now!”

Val snarled and threw one last glare at Skerry before turning around and retreating into the black shadows beneath the trees.

BATTLES. MANY BATTLES.

TL. DR. Skerry and Val fight, the brutes. Skerry gets an arm and his tail broken. Val gets some lovely facial scars and a broken wing.

Ah this war event. It has been so good for inspiring everyone to do some AMAZING things. Thank you SO MUCH to every member who participated! I think together we put up a fantastic showing!
