I hate self portraits. I think it shows in this particularly enthusiastic portrayal of myself.Oil on canvas board, 14x18. Couple of hours in the afternoon.

Haha, I think if you look closely, it's where it's supposed to be, only hidden in the dark. I can just make out the lines for fingers, clenched into a fist...I THINK.

Once I listened to somebody say that portraits are the most serious work of the artist. I somewhat agree; what could be more important statement than a painting by yourself about yourself? It's the maximum possible concentration of vanity and self love.

i hate self-portraits too. especially when people do them of themselves where their face is dead center frontal with no expression whatsoever. you however have a very expressive painterly application of the oil and picked a great pose. and i am so thrilled to find something that was done in the physical world and not photoshoped! doesn't anybody do any real art anymore?!? ... sorry i'm ranting but i love the emotive quality of your piece - you're a very skilled painter.
