So the distance between the eyes is about the same as the length of an eye... That's worth remembering.

I love the second one colored.
I really like the way you color eyes when they are finished, and i like the last step, but the second colored step is awesome too. It's really clean and i like it being simple yet perfectly done !

Btw: Thanks again for all your tutorial man, you are awesome ! I really look up to you...

the hard part is doing the symmetry right.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

SteamNewt In reply to kemando [2015-02-19 12:39:13 +0000 UTC]

Well, in reality, nothing is perfectly symmetric anyways. However, a decent amount of details might overlap the slight assymmetry of a drawing.Β

At least... for Rob Liefeld it worked. Β

DeadHedgehog In reply to kemando [2015-02-19 10:01:06 +0000 UTC]

yeah and it's even harder for tilted or turned faces O_O or expressions

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

PenciLollipop In reply to DeadHedgehog [2015-02-20 12:31:45 +0000 UTC]

I tend to think that it's easier when the face is tilted since you don't have to make it symmetrical... It's hard to master the dimension, but not as hard as being able to reproduce 2 similar eyes...

Do you always keep the one eye distance between eyes? (I'm mostly thinking of shoujo style or very large eyes.)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 3

Pisces-sayonara In reply to 3Rton [2015-02-19 06:10:58 +0000 UTC]

Large eyes tend to go rounder and not exactly wider, so I believe the one eyes distance still works.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3Rton In reply to Pisces-sayonara [2015-02-19 11:16:04 +0000 UTC]

True didn't have much time to look into this. Only series where i actually found the rule to be broken was Arina Tanemuras style where often the gap between eyes tends to be less than 1 eye (varying between 0.85-1.0)

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Pisces-sayonara In reply to 3Rton [2015-02-20 03:46:55 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, Tanemura's style is like that sometimes,
most of her characters look very similar because that's just her art style..
I believe for Kaito Jeanne the eyes were closer than they were for Full Moon and Gentlemen's Alliance..
Her early art styles had eyes that were closer than later on

Tanzenkat In reply to 3Rton [2015-02-19 04:55:14 +0000 UTC]

no thats a very very general rule for beginners, eyes change distance based on race and varying genetics everyones are different or we'd all look the same!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

3Rton In reply to Tanzenkat [2015-02-19 11:14:50 +0000 UTC]

I actually went in to do some measures (looked up some of those picture where different races have tens of their representatives faces averaged into proto face and then proto faces are put side by side.Β
Pretty much all of them were within 1-1.35 eye width between eyes. (Interestingly not race had less than one eyes width) Now ofc there are special cases to this (both healthy and not healthy) but overall I think this is pretty strong indicative that 1 eye is very good starting point for any realistic face : o

Tanzenkat In reply to 3Rton [2015-02-19 17:21:40 +0000 UTC]

its a nice average and starting point it's true, but there are very few true hard-set rules when it comes to portraiture ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 0

BlueLakeKylie In reply to 3Rton [2015-02-18 23:38:38 +0000 UTC]

I'm pretty sure that's correct… anime styles should still be proportional.
