I think this medium works really well with your style. This looks awesome and has just given me a new idea to begin working with chalk for my drawings

Hi, my name is Smirky, And i am a blue humanoid dog with a baseball cap and clothes. I was happily living my life, till some multicolored penguins came and now on 9/19/13 All of my kind, Pirates and Pixies will DIE, just because the penguins. I have recently escaped to the human world, and now i will get revenge. If you dont post this to 137 users before 9/19/13, YOU will die along with me and my kind. Here are some examples.

Case 1: Phoenix was a smart attorney. When he saw this letter, he did not believe it. but OH WAS HE WRONG! On the day i died, He mysteriously Disappeared and the only clue to his vanishing, was a hair from his head in his trash can...

Case 2: Maya was a 17 year old girl when saw this message and believed it. She did not have a computer, so she only could post this on a library computer. She only had time to post this 75 times, but when 9/19 Came, Her favorite game closed, and she was sad forever...

Case 3: Lotta was a gullible woman, When she saw this chain letter, she rushed and BARRELY sent it to 137 people. And when she went to sleep, i used the last of my energy to throw 1000 Jellybeans in her room, And when she woke up, She started eating her delicious beans...

Its very nice and very well done, no argument there. But dont you think its a bit misleading. This uses digital to get that effect, yet you dont upload it into mixed media, instead you say its traditional and even lay pencils in the pictures to play deeper into that. its not fare to traditional artist who will work to match your skill only to fail because it cannot be done.

You actually can do things this good with chalk because it blends so much better than pencil, so it looks really smooth.

Vvlad-vVolfen In reply to FlemethAlenkoTherin [2013-07-11 21:18:18 +0000 UTC]

I understand what you mean, but that's simply not the case here, this is Digitally manipulated. It's obvious because the white in the eye is whiter than the paper and pastel crayon in the photo. Due to the dim lighting in the photo all whites should also be dim as the paper (which is pure white) yet you'll notice the glint in the eye really is pure white...? Should it not be a gray as the dimly lit paper?!

All this artists work is done this way, "digital over traditional" IE: Mixed media. It's decevingly mislabeled "traditional" and a bit of a con for reasons already stated.

FlemethAlenkoTherin In reply to Vvlad-vVolfen [2013-07-11 23:27:26 +0000 UTC]

Well, maybe the paper was slightly off-white? I'm sorry, I just prefer to give the benefit of a doubt. :/

Vvlad-vVolfen In reply to FlemethAlenkoTherin [2013-07-12 01:52:40 +0000 UTC]

That's a good quality you have, but in this case you can see the lighting is darker in the top right as opposed to the bottom left, not to mention shadows cast on the napikn wrinkles , thus showing that it is in fact natural lighting, and the glint of light in the eyes defies that natural lighting effect. It can be nothing more or less than digital manipulation to gain such a bright white in low light. I have no problem with that, its just the deception of it that I'm finding to be unfare and increaingly common.

in fact, as far as I see, the colouring was done with soft pastels, but the eye whites are the shines aren't. because, as you can see, the colouring is affected by the poor lighting of the pictures, and looking through the artists gallery, you can notice that digitally adding the eye whites is sort of a habit for them. soft pastels are rather easy to work with that it isn't hard, even for a noob like myself, to come out with such an outcome. I still believe that the artist should have pointed it out, because I was wondering how come they come out with such a bright light on the eyes, and you have helped me pin point exactly why. so yeah, you're pretty right about the fact that they should have pointed it out.

Vvlad-vVolfen In reply to KingxXxNothing [2013-08-11 07:46:16 +0000 UTC]

Yeah it's a bit of a con, and not the first I've seen on dA. But this artistic con is the one that will suffer it in the end. Because dA is the only part of the art world they will ever make thier mark it. Because the rest of the art world beyond the Internet would find them to be a fraud, unable to equal their traditional art to the same level of detail when observed.

Oh ok, I'm sorry. Now that you point it out though, I do see what you mean. And now that I understand, I do kind of agree too... It's always hard seeing things other people draw naturally and having them look amazing just out of talent, but it's worse when someone enhances it further. Kind of puts the things I try to draw to shame, and then I get annoyed with myself and lose a bit of my passion for it.

Vvlad-vVolfen In reply to FlemethAlenkoTherin [2013-07-12 17:11:33 +0000 UTC]

Exactly. In my case, I did the same thing when I first encountered a 3-D digital artist, they had such impossably high detail and yet submitted works daily. I tried and tried to match their impossible detail and improve my speed, eventually working myself into despair, only to later on learn a digital 3-D interface was doing all the art work for them, and in real life they couldn't draw a stick man. I was not happy to learn that fact. Which is why I voice it here, when I see thar being done.

The Artist uses Photoshop to gain that effect, you can't match it with chalks or any other traditional medium. Sorry
