Nice, simple tutorial. It seems like you take more time doing this than reading this. Thanks for making it. n_n I'm going to give a try sometime. I'm still a newbie to 3dsm.

its just a simple tutorial to show the basic GUI tools in 3dsmax.... but yeah, a Geosphere might have given a better result.
LOOK! ^_^ your tuts in the list now!

Loved this , but i'm stuck on step 11 when it says to dark the mateiral onto the shape. I just get a "forbidden" sign on that . Btw it's the first time i'm using the program ( or any 3d program )

ive never heard of an error like this. maybe u could send a screenshot. Your the first person that has had a problem with the tutorial. Probably is something really stupid that you're doing wrong, but cant think of what it could be. Maybe a bit more information about the problem?
Thanks for the +fav

Well tried it all again , and i did it \o/ . The problem is that my computer is kinda slow ( although being 3ghz , 1gb ram oO ) and the sign just stood there for about 10 secs..if i wait it goes away and i can apply the material. Tks anyway great tut

Here's a question : What's the point of makeing the second shape, larger than the first one? Wont it completely encompass the first one making it invisible when rendering? I didn't notice a transparency level on the second material, so, was just wondering how you see the first shpere and what it's purpose is in the scene.

The point of the larger sphere is 2 create a blurred effect overall. it also shows ppl how the scale tool works. however, yes it does show through if the settings are right.
man it was just a tutorial, dont be so difficult! hahah! nah just joking!
Any chance u might make a tutorial, im really interested in making models like you.

Not trying to be difficult - i promise
I'll see about tuts for my models, but it'll be very similar so so many hundreds of other tuts out there - which is from what I learnt.

This is the one I learnt from :

It's nothing fancy - simple edit mesh style with shift drag on the edges. It's done in an older version of MAX, but the concept still applies.
