Description
Sega VS Capcom! Service Games VS Capsule Computers! Virtua Fighter VS Street Fighter! Sonic VS Mega Man! Blue and White VS Blue and Yellow!First of all, before deciding the characters, you gotta decide on what kind of game this will be. Marvel VS Capcom is an epic multiverse crossover event. SNK VS Capcom is a fighting tournament hosted by Ken Masters and Robert Garcia's families. Tatsunoko VS Capcom is... well it's just there. So, here's my criteria for Sega VS Capcom:
-The fighters gotta make sense for a Capcom fighting game
-They gotta make sense for a Sega fighting game
-They gotta be characters that would make sense to be seen together
So no Phoenix Wright beating up Billy Hatcher, no NiGHTS throwing down with Jill Valentine. Oh, and NO DANTE OR MORRIGAN! I wanna focus on characters that have less exposure.
Second of all, what's the gameplay like? I decided to take inspiration from the Marvel and Tatsunoko crossover games. You can select two characters to fight as a team, and some fighters can briefly summon an assist character as an EX move. The EX moves in particular could use any gimmick. The three level meter from Marvel VS Capcom, the Grooves from SNK VS Capcom, it doesn't matter.
Finally, I also decided to give each fighter a rival, like in Street Fighter X Tekken or Playstation All-Stars. If certain characters fight each other, they'll have a special interaction. Maybe a brief conversation, maybe a cutscene that explains why they're fighting, anything goes. Now then, onto the fighters!
Virtua Fighter
Akira Yuki - Akira, like all characters in Virtua Fighter, uses a real life martial art. Specifically, he uses the Chinese martial art Bajiquan. Bajiquan specializes in elbow and shoulder strikes.
Wolf Hawkfield - If we have a shoto character, we also need a grappler character. Wolf Hawkfield, the Canadian pro wrestler, will be joining the fight.
Jeffry McWild - Jeffry McWild is a master of Pankration, a boxing sport of Greek origin that incorporates kicks and chokeholds.
Sarah Bryant - Sarah fights using mixed martial arts, and Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do.
Kage-Maru - Kage is a ninja who fights using a special form of jujutsu developed by his clan, the Hagakure Clan.
Street Fighter
Ryu - The face of fighting games and fighting game crossovers, and Akira's rival for Sega VS Capcom.
Alex - The main character of Street Fighter III. He also appeared in the Tatsunoko crossover. He is a grappler and a wrestler, so of course his rival is Hawkfield.
Balrog - Jeffry McWild is a boxer who uses unconventional attacks, such as chokeholds and kicks. Does that remind you of anyone? Balrog, the foul playing boxer, will be stepping into the ring to face off against Jeffry.
Luke - The newest protagonist, from Street Fighter V and VI, is Sarah's rival. Both use MMA, and both are blonde. Moving on.
Geki - I'm pulling out ALL the stops for this roster! Geki, from the ORIGINAL Street Fighter! Well, not exactly. This is Geki II, the original Geki's successor. He appears as a background character in Street Fighter V, and I just think they should bring this ninja back as a playable character.
Urien - A batshit crazy member of the Secret Society, which is literally just the Illuminati but in Street Fighter.
Chun-Li - The world's strongest woman, and the most iconic female fighting game character.
Poison and Cody - So they're not technically Street Fighter characters, since they originated from Final Fight. But I'm still counting them in the Street Fighter section, because they've repeatedly appeared in Street Fighter games, and Final Fight is canonically set in the same world as Street Fighter.
Dan Hibiki - The chief joke character of Street Fighter. His specialties include taunting, and more taunting.
Jimmy Blanka - Dan's best friend, and one of the original Street Fighter II characters. He's green because he grew up in the Brazilian swamps and he ate electric eels.
Sakura Kasugano - Dan's other friend. She is Ryu's biggest fan, and the most popular Street Fighter character.
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic - Of course we have to include Sonic characters! But don't worry, Sonic fans. He wouldn't fight like he does in Smash. This is still a Capcom fighting game. So, his moveset would take inspiration from traditional fighting games that Sonic has appeared in, namely Sonic the Fighters and Sonic Battle.
Tails - Genius mechanic and Sonic's best friend.
Knuckles - Magical emerald holder, plows through boulders. Unlike Sonic, he doesn't chuckle.
Shadow - THE ULTIMATE LIFEFORM!
Metal Sonic - A robot that Eggman designed to defeat Sonic. In this game, Metal Sonic would have the ability to copy techniques from other fighters, similar to Rouge in Marvel VS Capcom.
Bark the Polar Bear - Another grappler, whose only two video game appearances are Sonic the Fighters and Fighters Megamix. I'm still including him, because all big crossover games have obscure characters. See: Tatsunoko VS Capcom. He's also Blanka's rival, since both are animalistic grapplers who live in extreme climates.
Fang the Sniper - Also known as Nack the Weasel. He's a greedy treasure hunter who's constantly trying to steal the Chaos Emeralds from both Sonic and Eggman to make a profit. He's also a zoner, using a comical popgun.
Honey the Cat - The third character from Sonic the Fighters. She's actually based on another fighting game character; Honey from Fighting Vipers.
Mega Man
Mega Man - Sonic's rival, obviously. Both are blue, both fight mad scientists, one rocks and the other rolls!
Roll Caskett - Okay, now I'm gonna start elaborating more on why I picked these characters. Roll Caskett, from Mega Man Legends, is a mechanic and Mega Man Volnutt's best friend. She assists Volnutt by upgrading his weapons. That's why she'll be Tails' rival. As for how she'd fight, I imagine she'd have a similar premise to Pyra and Mythra in Smash Ultimate. In Smash, Pyra uses the sword that Rex usually wields, because she IS that sword. It's complicated. All of Roll Caskett's special attacks would utilize the different weapons that she upgrades in Mega Man Legends. Mega Man Volnutt and Roll Classic showed up in Tatsunoko VS Capcom, and Tron Bonne showed up in Marvel VS Capcom, so it only makes sense to include a Mega Man Legends character in this game. Although Volnutt won't be playable in this game, he could still show up as an assist for one of Roll's specials. Maybe in Roll's arcade ending, she finally rescues Mega Man Volnutt with help from someone like Opa-Opa or the Space Harrier. Cuz, y'know, if Capcom isn't gonna make Mega Man Legends 3, the least they could do is not leave him on the moon.
Slash Man - Knuckles' rival. Why? Cuz my other choice was Proto Man, and I don't wanna load this roster up with zoners. Also, Slash Man appeared in another fighting game, Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, and his Slash Claw can cut through asteroids. That's just cool and is the perfect EX move.
Bass - If Sonic's rival is Mega Man, Shadow's rival has to be Bass. See, this is another reason I excluded Proto Man. We can't have THREE zoners from Mega Man, especially since they'd basically be clones of each other.
Zero - The ultimate Wily Robot, designed to take down Mega Man Classic. But, this won't be the Zero you're familiar with. I don't wanna overlap with Marvel VS Capcom, so this will be Zero as he appears in the Mega Man Zero games. As such, he'd play very differently from the Zero in Marvel VS Capcom.
Streets of Rage
Blaze Fielding - Since Streets of Rage is Sega's resident beat-em-up, Blaze will be Poison's rival. Which of course means...
Axel Stone - Axel is Cody's rival! They even have a very similar color scheme.
Darkstalkers
Darkstalkers is a fighting game inspired by horror monsters and mythological creatures, which would be perfect in a game that also features Sonic characters.
B.B. Hood - Baby Bonnie Hood (known as Bulleta in Japan) is a 14 year old Darkhunter, someone who hunts down the Night Warriors in Darkstalkers. Don't let her innocent appearance fool you. This little ankle-biter is an ice cold killer feared by the denizens of the Makai, who only cares about the thrill of the hunt and her paycheck. So of course, her rival is gonna be Fang! After all, Fang's a wolf and B.B. is based off Little Red Riding Hood, so it makes sense.
Felicia - Honey's rival, because they're both catgirls. Also, she's blue and attacks by curling up into a ball.
Persona
Kotone Shiomi - The female version of the protagonist from Persona 3 Portable. I'm including her instead of Makoto because all the male protagonists have the same personality, or lack thereof. I don't want two silent "cool guy" protagonists. Since she's an energetic schoolgirl, she's gonna be Sakura's rival.
Yu Narukami - But one silent protagonist is fine! Yu Narukami, from Persona 4, is also in this game.
Ryuji Sakamoto - Also known by his Phantom Thieves codename; Skull. Joker's already in Smash, so I decided to include his best friend Ryuji instead! We need characters with more personality.
Rival Schools
This fighting game did the team battle concept BEFORE Marvel VS Capcom!
Kyosuke Kagami - A cool, silent high school student who wears glasses? He'd be perfect as a rival for Yu! Yu Narukami, not you specifically. Like in SNK VS Capcom, one of his EX moves could summon his teammates Batsu and Hinata. By the way, Batsu was also in Tatsunoko VS Capcom!
Akira Kazama - A motorcyclist who also appeared as DLC in Street Fighter V. Probably because Sakura guest starred in Project Justice. She was even friends with Hinata and Natsu, at least in the Rival Schools universe. She wears a leather jacket and a helmet with a skull design. Kinda like Skull from Persona 5. Therefore, she'll be Ryuji's rival. And since Joker is also known as Akira Kurusu, it just makes sense.
And after that, we just have the franchises with a single representative. So we'll be going over them one by one.
Kazuma Kiryu - The dame dane guy from Yakuza is back, and he's gonna be Urien's rival. Both wear fancy suits and are members of secret organizations.
Ryo Hazuki - The protagonist of Shenmue, and Chun-Li's rival. Both travel through Hong Kong searching for the men who killed their fathers.
Strider Hiryu - The cyberpunk ninja from the year 2048 is back, because I just think fighting games should have more ninjas.
Joe Musashi - Strider's rival is Sega's resident ninja, Joe Musashi. You can never have too many ninjas in your fighting game. Just look at Mortal Kombat.
Daytona Hornet - Dan Hibiki needs a rival, so it's gonna be the joke character that appeared in Fighters Megamix; the Daytona Hornet! Yes, they put a car in a fighting game. Hornet has come to avenge all the cars destroyed in Street Fighter II!
Captain Commando - The technical mascot of Capcom, appearing as a secret unlockable character after you complete all the Capcom fighters' arcade modes or whatever. That means his rival has to be...
Segata Sanshiro! - In an attempt to market the failing Sega Saturn, Sega of Japan created Segata Sanshiro, a wandering judo master who beat the shit out of anyone who didn't buy a Sega Saturn. No, I'm not joking. This guy is the Chuck Norris of video game mascots. He throws people so hard they explode, he can clone himself, he never needs to wear shoes, and he deflected a nuclear missile with his bare hands. Put him in a fighting game, Sega, you cowards!
But we're not done yet. This is just the base roster. Here are three waves of DLC, each featuring 3 Sega characters and 3 Capcom characters, increasing the roster to a nice round 64.
Wave 1
Sophia/MegaMan.EXE - Sophia from Persona 5 Strikers, and MegaMan.EXE from Mega Man Battle Network. Both are childlike AI who live within the internet and fight monsters.
Ichiban Kasuga/Rashid - Ichiban from Yakuza: Like a Dragon, and Rashid from Street Fighter V. Both are relatively new characters with a laidback personality and a strong sense of justice.
Rouge/Ruby Heart - Rouge from Sonic, and Ruby Heart from Marvel VS Capcom 2. Ruby is the main protagonist of MvC2, and is heavily associated with multiverse travel and crossovers. So, including her as the final character of the first wave of DLC will be a good way to keep people guessing as to who will be added next. One of her EX moves could summon Amingo and SonSon, her two allies who were also original characters from Marvel VS Capcom. I'm picking Rouge as her rival, because Ruby is a pirate and Rouge is a jewel thief. Her name is Ruby. Get it?
Wave 2
Eggman/Wily - Dr. Eggman from Sonic, and Wily from Mega Man. You saw this coming, right?
Janet/Jill - WAIT NEVERMIND I THOUGHT OF A BETTER MATCHUP THAN SETH AND DURAL! Janet from Virtua Cop, and Jill Valentine from Resident Evil. Both are from shooters who appeared in fighting games!
Bayonetta/Nero - The angel bounty hunter and the devil bounty hunter. Bayonetta and DMC are two very popular hack-n-slash games, but I didn't wanna turn this into another "Featuring Dante from the Devil May Cry Series" meme. So instead I included his nephew, Nero. He's clearly the main protagonist from DMC5 onward. And Bayonetta has had her new games, so it'd make sense to include her alongside Nero.
Wave 3
E-123 Omega/Sigma - I couldn't leave out the rest of Shadow's comrades, so here's the third member of Team Dark; Omega! His rival is Sigma from the Mega Man X games, because both are robots whose names are Greek letters, who went rogue against their creators. Also, I just think Omega is a little bit underrated.
Raidou Kuzunoha/Akuma - Raidou is an occult detective from the Shin Megami Tensei series, which is where Persona originated from. He defends his town from demons, which is why his rival is Akuma, a rage-filled warrior who turned into a demon after seeking to become more powerful.
And now for the final two DLC characters. They have to be something BOLD! Smash Ultimate had Sora. Dragon Ball FighterZ had Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta. Mortal Kombat 11 had the Joker. Who are gonna be the final two rivals for this game?
Hatsune Miku/Jotaro Kujo - Think about it. Sega publishes the Project Diva Vocaloid games, and Capcom published the first two JoJo fighting games. Put these two in as special guest characters. Have Miku fight like Rise did in Persona 4 Arena. Give us a scene of Star Platinum and Akuma delivering blow after blow in the dark, with neither of them flinching.Well, that's all the time I have for today. Except for one more thing.
Sonic gets a Guile costume. Give him the sunglasses, fatigue pants, boots, and tanktop, with his quills styled into a flat top. Because...
SONIC BOOM!
Build The Roster from Thorgi's Arcade, biggest inspiration.
