Description
Full size model of the Gauss Rifle (as created by me) for the MWO app. Though a Guassian weapon can be either rail or coil, rail guns have higher velocities and are more suitable for anti-armor weapons.Related content

I suspected it was SketchUp, but I just wanted to make sure.

I primarily use Sketchup and do some 2d after effects in GIMP.

Just a bit of terminology to note:
Technically this is only a Railgun, as the term Gauss gun is used almost exclusively to refer to Coilguns.
Also the term rifle is technically inaccurate, as I could not see this having a rifled barrel. Though the term has been so generalized that it may just be me nit-picking.
Besides that, nice modeling, it'd be interesting to see a textured version.

The term Gauss is used in reference to weapons that apply the Gaussian theory of magnetics, which is used to measure the magnitude of a magnetic field. A coil gun uses spaced out spools of tightly wound, ceramic coated copper wire attached to an electronic current transformer that alternates "push and pull" magnetic fields. A rail weapon uses two conductive rails with the projectile completing the circuit between them. As the projectile moves up the rail, power is fed to electromagnets along the circuit until it exits the barrel. The coil gun could theoretically maintain a high rate of fire, as new rounds entering the barrel simple use the "rippling" magnetic field. A rail weapon cannot fire another round until the first has been discharged, or the second projectile will break the circuit on the first.
The "Gauss Rifle" was created for Mercpedia, an unofficial Mechwarrior Online Android app. All the weapons and technology come from Battletech, which only has a "Gauss Rifle." In reality, it should be Gauss Cannon or Rail Cannon to indicate it's large bore size, but I didn't coin the term or invent the weapon (source: [link] ). It's actually impossible to rifle a railgun due to friction and the fact that the projectile is contained within a nonconductive sleeve. Instead, such projectiles are fin stabilized instead.
I used a Railgun for the gauss rifle because it fits the high damage and very long recharge time reflected in the game.
As it's made for a UI, it won't be textured traditionally, but ends up looking like this: [link]
Thanks for looking though
