Description
If Vastatotyrannus is the ultimate extreme in size, hunting specialization and power for modern day tyrannosaurids, then its closest living relative, Dynamosaurus, is the ultimate in armor and adornment. A peculiar predator of the Eurasian forests and plains, this 40-foot theropod is the tyrannosaurid equivalent of an ankylosaur, for it is both predator and prey. Uncommon, it is a fierce competitor with the Vastatotyrannus and therefore has evolved armor far surpassing that of its cousin as protection from this larger predator. Osteoderms and spikes cover the animal’s hide, and the array of spines on its tail is a perfect defense against larger theropods. Specializing in the hunting and killing of ankylosaurids and heavily armored titanosaurs, Dynamosaurus has small saber tusks that are proportionately shorter and thicker than those of Vastatotyrannus. These tusks, protected by flanges on the lower jaw are powerful weapons that can tear through even the toughest armor. It is also more robust than its larger relative. Though generally an ambush hunter, it is an apt scavenger as well. Generally living in pairs, Dynamosaurus is sexually dimorphic, with the males possessing huge, fatty jowls. The female has no jowls in comparison and is slightly larger than the male. Oddly for tyrannosaurs, the female is also less aggressive despite being superior in size. Both male and female are superb parents, raising rather small clutches of young when compared to other tyrannosaurids. Exemplary parents, they are extremely protective of their young against all comers. When attacked by larger carnivores, Dynamosaurs fight by hunching low, keeping their unarmored bellies low to the ground with tails raised and mouths agape. Should a strike come, the tyrannosaurs use their tails to bludgeon and lacerate the attacker, twisting from behind their unorthodox defense to lunge and bite with devastating effect. Other predatory theropods, especially tyrannosaurids of similar to smaller size generally learn from the first encounter to avoid this terrible beast.

Another speculative tyrannosaur, named after the original name for T. rex. This creature was partially inspired in appearance by tegus, and the armor is a combo of crocodilian and ankylosaur features. I really need to figure out how to construct a family tree for all the current tyrannosaurs in this project so I can share them all on DA.
